Sorting through the scrap heap

Now comes the time of the year when free agents look at the calendar and realize they may not be getting that three-year, $30 million deal after all. So they call their agents and demand a job somewhere.

I don’t think will have much impact on the Yankees. There are a few LHPs out there, but outside of Ron Villone there is nobody who seems like they would be much help. Arthur Rhodes? Yeesh.

The Yankees certainly hope Villone signs with somebody as they would get a draft pick as compensation. They offered Ronnie V arbitration back in December. Villone has a few multi-year deals on the table, I’m told.

Brian Cashman returns from vacation this week (he was chilling with Jay-Z and Beyonce on the beach, no doubt) and will finalize the Miguel Cairo deal. Somehow I don’t see the writers getting a free lunch out of that move.
