Mark Newman, who runs the minor leagues for the Yankees, just e-mailed me with an update on the status of J.B. Cox.
Cox is not on the spring training roster because he has a broken bone in his right hand.
“(He’ll be) ready to throw a bit late,” Newman reports.
Cox was in Class AA last season (6-2, 1.75, 3 saves) and wasn’t going to make the team out of Tampa anyway. But if recovers and pitches well, he could get a shot during the season.
