Carl Pavano had a conference call with the media today. Here are a few highlights:

On his relationship with the team: “I understand the position I’ve put myself in with the things that have happened over the last couple of years. I have a good enough relationship with my teammates where I’m going to go in and act like I’m getting ready for the season and I’m part of the team … I don’t think many things need to be done personality wise. I don’t think I rubbed anyone the wrong way or disrespected any one in any way.”

On his health: “I’ve spent the last two years waking up every day hoping my body feels better and I’ll be able to pitch and that hasn’t been the case. I know I can pitch and I know I can get big-league hitters out. I’ve had success over the years. I don’t see why I can’t step it up and be a big asset to the Yankees rotation.”

Agent Gregg Clifton: “I think Carl is obviously a veteran player and a lot of people forget that Carl Pavano is an All-Star caliber pitcher who went through a tough period where he had some injuries. It’s not the injuries it’s how you respond.”
