Chillin’ out at the Chuck E. Cheese

This is my 18-month-old nephew Jason on the slide at Chuck E. Cheese today. I’m on a five-day tour of my family before heading to Tampa next week. Two days with my folks and a few days with each sister and their kids.

Then it’s so long Uncle Pete until April.

Jason liked the slide, he sat in the Bob The Builder Car for a while and he enjoyed the Sponge Bob Car. He wasn’t much for sitting next to Barney on his ride.

This afternoon I will build houses with Mega Blocks that he will promptly tear apart. Kids have the best toys these days.

So barring some unexpected development, I won’t be back here until tomorrow.

UPDATE: Look, I made a man out of Mega Blocks. Alas, Jason pushed it down within 10 minutes. But a fine time was had by all.

Funny you should mention Chuck Cheese, I am headed there this evening with my little bro (Big Bro/Big Sis). I actually enjoy heading there (never thought I would like Chuck over the age of 12), nothing beats the free throw shooting game.

  2. Jason

Wish you had some Lincoln Logs. That’s what I gave my nephew and I like those better than the mega blocks.

Looking forward to your reports from Tampa. You’re the best beat blogger on the block.

  3. Rich

Make him do everything with his left hand, Peter. He could have a job in MLB until he’s 40.

  4. sammy

… Rich totally stole my suggestion, as that was my original intent for commenting.

however, I will say this: using Mega Blocks before, that guy looked like it took a solid 2-4 minutes to construct. And I’m sure you’re exaggerating somewhat with 10 minutes for your nephew to take down. More like 10 seconds.

… at least, that’s what my niece and nephew will do.

    well craftsmanship there, sir.
    :)

my kids are in their teens now and wont give up these blocks and and lincoln logs…they say it is too sacred to give them away, even though they dont play with them anymore. or perhaps they really do play with them but wont admit it! have fun and thanks for sharing…these are the best times with an uncle comes over and plays with the kids.

Jeter expects Clemens to pitch this season

    http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6446896

I hope it’s the Yankees. I still don’t trust Carla Pavano and Igawa who’s unproven. Let Hughes and Sanchez to develop until they’re ready to pitch in the majors.

  7. TurnTwo

mega blocks? what ever happened to legos?? i used to love those things, but i never followed the instructions to build was you were supposed to.

  8. Doreen

Sounds like you’re having a blast! I really miss the days when my girls played with their legos or building blocks, when the best part, the absolute best part, was knocking things down and making a big noise!

“Make him do everything with his left hand, Peter. He could have a job in MLB until he’s 40.”

LOL! Rich, that’s one of the funniest things I’ve read on here. Very clever thinking.

Ahhh… Chuck E Cheese, the land of $95 pizzas and more damn noise than a human should ever be subjected to. I used to work for a company that built their interactive stages and did a lot of graphics for them. Chuck was simply known as the “%#&$#@ rat” to us at work. Not a face you wanted to have to look at that often.

Have fun, Pete. Look forward to your reports from Tampa.

    Seriously, not being American…

what the heck is Chuck E. Cheese?? Is it somewhere to eat?

Will A-Rod Win a World Series?

    http://www.baseballprospectus......red/?p=183

Yes, Yankees will win world series hopefully this year.

  12. sunny615

    will Arod opt out?

    ESPN thinks so:

  13. Chris NY

    Legos, definitely legos….

  14. Jetes2

I like Legos myself but that’s an awesome creation, Peter.

  15. Dustin

    Question on the mega blocks…

How did you get the blocks to stick on the arm that’s hanging down? My 1 year old son has those blocks, I’ve tried to create a robot several times. But, his arms have to be constructed so they’re straight up in the air. If I have an arm hanging down, gravity pulls it off. Is that a tape job? Frustrating.

  16. swo

Dano – Chuck E Cheese’s is basically a combination of a video game arcade and a pizzeria.

  17. Peter Abraham

Dustin: I have no idea what I did. You need to use the longer pieces for the arm, I know that much.

Mega Blocks are no Legos but for 18-month olds they’re easier to use.

  18. gianthinker

Good for you spending time with the fam Pete! Good to hear. I hope you travel safely and dont get totally raped in the airport by security.

  19. gianthinker

Pete: Question for when you return. First I want to prelude the question by saying that I in no way think we need him but I would LOVE to see him brought in and truely strengthen our bullpen. Dustin Hermanson held a open tryout on 2/5 for teams basically to come see him throw so he could prove his back is okay. Now, bad backs on older pitchers hasnt worked out for the Yanks (Kevin Brown & Randy Johnson) but they were both starters. Hermanson has proven hmself to have the ability of being one of the best closers in baseball. Fortunately, we’re not the Red Sox and we have a closer. The best of all time in Mo. Hermanson instead could solidify our set up roll. Right now they arent sold on Proctor being able to do it year in and year out and they brought in Vizcaino, a former closer, to help with the set up duties. Now, like many other Yankee fans I have worked the 25 man roster out already and I am actually happy with our pen but I would still be willing to sacrifice someone for Hermanson. Have you heard any reports on how Hermanson did/looked? Also, what are your thoughts on possibly bringing him in?

  20. Deric

Just like you said, where are we gonna get that roster spot for Dustin Hermanson? Even if we do, would you give up a valuable roster spot for a guy that we don’t even need? Don’t forget he also has health problems.

A-Rod not thinking about opting out of deal now -Associated Press

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/.....id=2756474

Thank God Arod’s decided to stay and not opt out of his contract.

  22. Rich

    What?

  23. Dave

    AJ,

These articles are not fact. They are pure speculation. You shouldnt take them so seriously as to say oh good espn says he wont opt out or damn arod says he will opt out. No one actually knows if he will opt out. All I know if that if he does, he will be forever hated in NY. He will be blasted every chance he gets and if he goes to another AL team he better wear body armor before walking out onto the field. The only reason I can possibly see arod opting out is to shove up his middle finger and shout out the big F u to the yankees and to all of NY. He is making a monstrous amount of money if he doesnt opt out. I doubt he could get much more if he signed a new contract. I just dont think that arod wants this kind of exit from the team. But again, everything any one says from now until next off season if purely speculation – only arod actually knows the truth and maybe his family.

  24. Canada

Even more interesting, it is an article about Papelbon.

  25. Dave

it was about papelbon? I didnt even read it. So AJs post was just completely wrong. My point still stands tho. I didnt mean this article – i ment every article written about arod opting out.

  26. Aj

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/.....id=2756407

Sorry guys. This is the correct link about Arod sidestepped whether he plans to opt out of his record contract with the New York Yankees

  27. Chris NY

AJ, that’s just it, he sidestepped it, said he’s focused on the season and taking it one day at a time. That doesn’t mean he’s decided not to opt out, that means he’s either not decided or isn’t talking about it yet. Basically, means nothing other than that he said what he should say before the season. He doesn’t have to make that decision till November (has to play this year first) and would be foolish to say anything right now one way or the other.

If he says, yeah, I’m outta here, he’ll get a hell of a lot more than boo-ed at the Stadium this year.

If he says no way, I’m staying, question goes away, but then he’ll look a whole lot worse after the season if he goes back on his word and opts out.

Correct answer, “not even thinking about that right now, looking forward to a great season.”

  28. Jake

JD Drew also said he would not opt out at this time last yr. And hes 20% the player A Rod is.

  29. Chris NY

The only way he’s not opting out is if his market value goes down too far for other clubs to offer a big contract, which won’t happen unless he gains 50 lbs of fat, uses one hand to hold the bat, bats left handed, and throws the ball with his new gut. He’ll either opt out or we’ll give him an extension.

  30. Dave

If arod opts out next yr, he will be hated by yankee fans whether he says he is def not opting out now or he doesnt. He is making 24 million per yr over the next three yrs – he wont get much more in free agency. He is going to look soo greedy or the yankee fans who boo him constantly are going to look soo stupid.

  31. Chris NY

I don’t think he’ll go anywhere as long as he has a good season and gets the monkey off his back at least a little bit. But I do think it’ll come into play looking for an extension. What happens if we don’t give him the extension could be a big part of what will define his legacy in NY.
