I don't think he'll go anywhere as long as he has a good season and gets the monkey off his back at least a little bit. But I do think it'll come into play looking for an extension. What happens if we don't give him the extension could be a big part of what will define his legacy in NY.

If arod opts out next yr, he will be hated by yankee fans whether he says he is def not opting out now or he doesnt. He is making 24 million per yr over the next three yrs - he wont get much more in free agency. He is going to look soo greedy or the yankee fans who boo him constantly are going to look soo stupid.

The only way he's not opting out is if his market value goes down too far for other clubs to offer a big contract, which won't happen unless he gains 50 lbs of fat, uses one hand to hold the bat, bats left handed, and throws the ball with his new gut. He'll either opt out or we'll give him an extension.

AJ, that's just it, he sidestepped it, said he's focused on the season and taking it one day at a time. That doesn't mean he's decided not to opt out, that means he's either not decided or isn't talking about it yet. Basically, means nothing other than that he said what he should say before the season. He doesn't have to make that decision till November (has to play this year first) and would be foolish to say anything right now one way or the other.

If he says, yeah, I'm outta here, he'll get a hell of a lot more than boo-ed at the Stadium this year.

If he says no way, I'm staying, question goes away, but then he'll look a whole lot worse after the season if he goes back on his word and opts out.

Correct answer, "not even thinking about that right now, looking forward to a great season."

AJ,

These articles are not fact. They are pure speculation. You shouldnt take them so seriously as to say oh good espn says he wont opt out or damn arod says he will opt out. No one actually knows if he will opt out. All I know if that if he does, he will be forever hated in NY. He will be blasted every chance he gets and if he goes to another AL team he better wear body armor before walking out onto the field. The only reason I can possibly see arod opting out is to shove up his middle finger and shout out the big F u to the yankees and to all of NY. He is making a monstrous amount of money if he doesnt opt out. I doubt he could get much more if he signed a new contract. I just dont think that arod wants this kind of exit from the team. But again, everything any one says from now until next off season if purely speculation - only arod actually knows the truth and maybe his family.
