More money for Mo: Now or later?

Mariano Rivera wants a contract extension. But according to agent Fern Cuza, there haven’t been any talks with the Yankees since a brief discussion in December.

This is a tricky situation. It would not normally make much sense to give a 37-year-old pitcher a contract extension, especially one who had a mysterious arm problem at the end of last season. Just wait until after the season to make sure he is healthy.

But this is Mariano Rivera, the MVP of the Joe Torre Era and a future Hall of Famer. He also has been dramatically underpaid when compared to other players on his team and even other closers. Rivera has never given the team an ounce of trouble. If anybody is deserving of respect, it is Rivera.

Extend him now or make him wait? This is one of those struggles between the heart and mind.

So think it over and cast your vote over to the right.
