Mariano is saying what a player is supposed to say (guided by his agent, no doubt) to drive up his market price. As is Cashman by not giving in to pressure created in and, in part by, the media to make a business decision and show the world he can be pushed around. He's the Senior VP and GM of one of the most well-known COMPANIES in the world, I think he's got some business skills.... As Ryan said, we have a window to sign him before anyone else can even contact him. He wants to stay, we want him to stay, the Yankees have the money to top any offer (which won't matter because he'll never hear offers), so there is nothing to worry about other than injury, which you have to worry about with any player, at any time. Just as with Mussina this year, they'll work out a deal. Mo will ask for what he wants, and he'll get it, and I'll say right now that it won't be an absurd amount.
