Pettitte talks about Clemens

Near the end of our interview with Andy Pettitte, the subject of Roger Clemens came up. It was inevitable.

Pettitte said he had worked out with Clemens several times back in Houston. They also expect to play golf together in Florida. Clemens will be at Houston’s camp at some point to throw batting practice to his son and other prospects.

“Me and Roger don’t talk an awful, awful lot but when we do get together he does a lot of talking,” Pettitte said. “I won’t say anything. There’s nothing I gotta say. He knows how I feel about him.”

Does Pettitte think Clemens will play? “I think he does.”

Clemens talks a lot but doesn’t say anything definite. Sounds like his relationship with every baseball fan in America.

I wouldn’t mind Clemens pitching for the Astros this year. I think the Yankees will be fine with any of Hughes-Sanchez-Ohlendorf-Clippard challenging Pavano and Igawa for the back end of the rotation.

i agree Thurman. Just as long as he doesn’t sign with boston. Can almost see boston fan’s s__t eating grin now if that happened.

I’d rather have Clemens AND have Hughes-Sanchez-Ohlendorf-Clippard challenging Pavano and Igawa for the back end of the rotation………

Clemens isn’t going back to Boston. His wife would never forgive him.

I don’t think he’s coming back to NY, either.

There’s nothing left in Boston for him what-so-ever… Houston has his family, but nothing else. That’s not to belittle the importance of family, but in terms of baseball, there is nothing there for him except terrible run support.

He’s doing this half-year thing, so traveling for half a season isn’t as bad and therefore not as big of an issue nor as big of an incentive to stay in Houston. His family supports him and I’m sure they’re his biggest fans and can’t stand watching him pitch his a$$ off just to get zero run support and lose games.

He’ll be back in NY come June.
