First day about to get going at Legends

The Yankees are having a meeting now. They’ll be on the field at 10:15.

It’s the usual stuff: fielding drills and conditioning. The Group 1 pitchers (Wang, Mussina, Pettitte, Pavano, Igawa) will throw in the bullpen at 11:35 for eight minutes. That will be the big highlight of the day. Well that and when a pelican attacks Carl Pavano and he’s out for six months.

In case you’re wondering (and I know you are) the Group 2 pitchers are Rasner, Hughes, Karstens, Sanchez and Ohlendorf.

Meanwhile, the media has decided we love Kei Igawa. Why? He invited us to dinner on Saturday.

Hideki Matsui does the same thing every year, although we insist on paying every other year. It’s an off-the-record dinner so everybody can get to know each other. It’s a tradition among Japanese players.

Kind of a cool thing, I think. Breaks down some barriers and ultimately leads to better stories.
