Is Bernie coming through the door?

Bernie Williams has not communicated with the Yankees today, which would seem to indicate that he is not coming to camp. Joe Torre spoke at length about it as did Jorge Posada.

Joe is holding out hope that Bernie will arrive. Posada doesn’t think it’s happening. Mariano Rivera isn’t sure.

In terms of other matters: Andy Phillips checked in as did Hideki Matsui. Robbie Cano and Melky Cabrera are in town. The only position players we haven’t seen are A-Rod, Johnny Damon (who lives in Orlando) and Jason Giambi (who is probably just waking up from an All-Star weekend party in Vegas). All three are expected tomorrow.

Steven White played some catch today, his shoulder/neck problem having been deemed not serious.
