The truth hurts, Randy. On an unrelated note, thanks for your coverage Pete. Yours is the only blog I read regularly (meaning about 3x a day).
The only complimentary clause in that statement is “he gave us everything he could,” which, in a way, is barely a compliment.
I guess Giambi thinks the Yanks can replace his 17 wins.

Pete, let me agree with Brian, this blog has quickly become my most must read multiple times a day. Good job Giambi and A Rod, seems the Yankees must hav had truth serum added to their meals. Next thing you know, the Yankees will come out and just say they are going to win the AL East again as the rest of the division just doe snot compare to our powerful Yankees.
He’ll prob have night off because of lefty to lefty. Maybe Randy overthrows first when Giambino gets up on top rung.

as intimidating as randy looks on the mound i’ve always considered giambi to be one of the more intimidating batters to pitch against. he can have quite the scowl when he’s up there, never seems scared, and is obviously a big, strong guy.

That is the most beautiful quote I have ever, ever read. Thank you.
Randy Johnson, king of run support. Including the postseason, in games where he gave up five or more earned runs, he earned a win in 5, a loss in 6, and a no-decision in 2 (one win, one loss). (The deciding game that put the losses over the wins, by the way, was his start against Detroit in the ALDS.)
Moral of the story: in 34 games started, Unit gave up five or more earned runs in 13 of them.
Oh, and I guess there’s also that whole “he didn’t really EARN 17 wins” thing too, I guess. But I’m just sort of a bitter guy.
Pete this is by far the best yankee blog/news site on the internet right now. Please please keep up the hard work.. it’s one of the highlights of my day when i’m here at home working. haha.. i love the fact that you post updates a few times during the day… awesome stuff-

that’s kind of what everybody has been saying.
maybe it’s time for guys like john kruk to realize that every baseball fan is not an idiot so there’s no need to oversimpfly things by saying that a “pitcher’s job is to win games.”
anybody with half a brain understands that’s it’s the ‘TEAM’S’ job to win games and a picther’s job to give his team the best ‘CHANCE’ to win the game by hopefully holding the opposition to less than 5+ runs.

I think Unit got off very lightly for hiding that injury – “didn’t get a chance to rest it” he said, though the Yanks had wrapped up the division and he could’ve rested at least two starts. But he’s after his 300 wins, so any risk to the Yanks postseason hopes were less important. I’m bitter guy too.

Was this the whole quote or was this taken slightly out of context? (I think it was the whole quote and Giambi was being funny, but my friend is arguing it was out of context).

Don’t picture Giambi as the sarcastic type – but that remark was kind of funny – whether he meant it to be or not. Frankly, I don’t think Johnson’s remarks were so bad.
Pretty soon we’ll be calling this Yankee team the Bronx Zoolet!
