Derek disses the new hats

After we got done asking Derek Jeter about A-Rod, he stood up.

“How come nobody asked me about the news hats?” he said.

OK, so what about the hats?

“They’re terrible!”

Then he jogged off.

You have to admit, it’s an ugly hat. You really shouldn’t mess with something that works.

Completely agree about the hats. The greatness of the Yankee logo is its simplicity. I even hate the hip hop Yankee hats you see in different colors.

    Don’t mess with success.

  2. Steve

This is the 1st time I hear about the new hats. I agree with DJ 100%, they are terrible. The Yankees haven’t changed anything about their uniforms in over a 100 years. Why start now?

  3. JJ

This is just a spring training hat, Right?

Should be a Big Seller at TJ MAXX & Marshalls next winter!

  4. Wendy

The new hats are UGLY! But I bet there will be a ton of them on heads in the stands at the Stadium!

  5. jennifer

It is all of MLB changing the hats. I don’t if the Yankees had any say in the matter. But yeah they are ugly!!! The NY on the front looks stupid as does the stripe on the side, it looks like the hat is bulging!!

Peter do you know if the Yankees had a say in the hat?

  6. Mike

I was watching Comcast this morning and saw the Washington Nationals’ version of this hat. It was a blue hat with red under the line by the ears. I wonder if this is a MLB wide hat design.

But, really, it could be A LOT worse. Have you seen the hats the NFL produces, or NASCAR hats, or even the NFL hats from the 80’s where the name was spread out over the brim?

  7. Cutter

They aren’t changing the regular season hats, are they? This is just for ST, right?

  8. JeremyM

Please tell me these are just spring hats. I didn’t pay them much mind since I assumed they were just for training, but they have no place in the regular season.

  9. Chris

The hats look like one of those cheap hats you can get at walmart for 5 bucks for the kids rather than spending 25 at Lids. They better just be for Spring Training!!!!!!

  10. TurnTwo

Have no fear, no change to the regular caps, or pinstripes thankfully… these are Mlb-wide Batting Practice Caps and Jerseys that they change every year just to sell new merchandise.

  11. Rob(Middletown, CT)

*phew* Good. The alternative would be awful.

  12. Jeremy

That can’t be good for sales.

  13. Alex

    Totaltly agree,
If fans wont to look stupid, go ahead. But nt the players.

  14. asburyboss

it reminds me of all the teams going to that new helmet too…the aerodynamic thing…I know the Mets wear em…the yanks told em to pack it- and stayed with what works…shoulda done the same with the hat.

    interlocking NY…nuff said.

  15. yanks61

The hats are awful – period! Thanks, TurnTwo, for relieving our minds. Where do these geniuses dig up this garbage?! But you know what, sometimes they sell stuff with even bad publicity. So it gets on everyone’s nerves and people are forced to pay attention

  16. Rick

Yea these hats are wack man. I mean come on, The original Yankee hat is the greatest baseball hat EVER, even the yankee haters have to admit it. I do like the other diverse kinds of yankee hats but this one sucks period. Yankees don’t mess the classics man, like I said before the yankee hat is the GREATEST BASEBALL HAT OF ALL TIME.

  17. Rich

These hats remind me of when Coca-Cola changed the formula of Coke back in the ’80s.

Don’t mess with a good thing.

  19. Ryan

i think i’m the only one that actually likes the hats. while i wouldn’t give up the normal cap, I like to see a little different stuff once in a while. It’s not like they made it ugly like those other yankee hats in random colors you see….

  20. Russell

I agree that you have to preserve the logo but I do like the new look of the hat. I bought one myself the other day.

  21. Six Ways From Next Tuesday

Peter, for what its worth, MVN has lifted your blog entry. While they did link to the story, its nearly an exact copy down to the pic: http://mvn.com/mlb-yankees/

Just wanted to point that out.

  22. Ann

    Rick,

I appreciate your sentiment and I agree that they should not mess with success. However, the original hat did not have an interlocking NY. The interlocking NY insignia did not appear until 1909. Furthermore, “The Yankees utilized numerous cap designs including pinstripes from 1903 until 1922 when they finally settled on a solid navy cap with the interlocking “NY” insignia” (from Yankees.com, history section).

    why

  25. cardsfan

although im a cards fan, gotta say i agree with all you yankees. those hats need to go, even if i dont like the yanks, they wouldnt be the same without their trademark hat… just like any other team thats been in the league for a long time!

THE YANKEES WON!!! THE RED SOCKS LOST!!!!!!!
