Phil Hughes audio from today

Peter Abraham
February

By popular demand, here is our interview with Phil Hughes after he threw batting practice today.

Phil Franchise is a little soft-spoken but hopefully you’ll be able to hear what he’s saying.

Please refer to him as Phranchise from now on…please, he’s earned it.

  2. TurnTwo

idk if he’s earned that quite yet… how about for now, lets just hope he doesnt turn out to be known as ‘the Phlop’

  3. William

I want to see some criticism becuase everyone is talking about how good Hughes is. I mean, there has to be flaws in him and what he can improve. If everyone says hes good then everyone is just gonna jump the bandwagon.

  4. William

BTW Mr. Abraham, I really enjoy your blog and it makes me happy to be reading about interesting baseball everyday.

  5. Chris NY

This 20 year old kid speaks like Jeter with the pitching intelligence of Mussina and one of the best eyes in the game (Giambi) calling his stuff FILTHY.

In due time, he’ll earn it, pray he stays healthy.

  6. Ron H

Thank you Pete!! Also for Giambi’s take on Phil. Great job breaking down the BP for us also. Now, go enjoy a few cold ones!

  7. Peter Abraham

Phil Franchise. That’s what I am going with.

  8. Chris NY

    Good stuff Pete..

  9. eYe NY

There is nothing bad to say about PH. His stuff is filthy & he knows how to pitch, not just throw. He’s mastering his circle change & when that happens its over for everyone.

  10. JDnotDrew

wow Phil sounded ready for the media attention- nice. Pete , great audio all around. You have the mic placement down.

William, there’s not much to criticize, but if i had to come up with something, it would be: his FB could be faster, like 94-98 rather than 92-96, he got hammered at the Futures Game, who knows if he can pitch 6+ innings a game consistently, and he grew up a Sawx fan. i know, not much.

please dont start with the ‘Franchise’ stuff. he hasn’t thrown a single ML pitch yet.
