Mike Plugh – thanks for the translation. A “Sable” is a french butter cookie, very tender and delicate. Literal translation from the french is “sand.” If you’ve ever eaten one of those cookies they’re so delicate they crumble like sand.

Ahh, Reggie Bars! Bright orange wrapper with big blue letters spelling REGGIE and a likeness of Reggie swingin’ from the heels.
It brings back fond memories of 1978. I worked for an Organization that had a few Red Sox Fans and they were busting chops on our tight-knit group of Yankee Fans for most of the baseball regular season – until August & September…. The famous 1978 Playoff Game was held on a Monday afternoon in Fenway. Our Yankee Group and the Red Sox taunters left early to watch the fateful game. The next day our victorious group showed up early at our rivals’ office, decked out with Yankee gear, pennants, Boston Globe & Daily News newspapers, and banners….and we made our grand entrance by throwing a bunch of Reggie Bars to everyone….at 25 cents a throw!
We nearly got fired, but what a show it was!

Hey Pete, I was wondering if you ever would have time to go to the Yanks minor league complex in Tampa to see guys like Joba, Betances, and Kennedy getting ready for the minor league season. The blog is great and I realize its your job to write about the major league team, but there is such a wealth of talent in the Yankee organization and I would love to hear how guys like Joba and Dellin look. Anyways, thanks for the great posts and keep up the good work.

I’m 45, so I was 16 when the Reggie bar came out.

Chocolate, caramel and peanuts.

I remember the 1978 home opener when the bars were given to the fans and Reggie homered. I forget how long it took the ground crew to clean up the field after fans threw the bars onto the field in “tribute”. It was a while, and it was funny.

I think “Sabure” must be an imported French word. My wife says it means a cookie made with milk and eggs and whatever….

That’s a little vague, but it’s probably “sabret” or something. I’m too lazy to Google it.
