You know what else happened in August....he stopped pitching well above his career norms.

I'm not saying that Torre's use of him was defendable in August, but I'm not sure it is fair to say that Torre destroyed him either.

Joe Torre still owns Villone a spot after he destroyed Villone's season last year.

Villone's ERA entering August 2.08. Torre then pitchs him in 17 of the 28 days that they played that month. Villone's ERA was 10.50 thereafter. He killed him.

Jeez guys. It's not like the staff is set in stone already tough it looks like there'll only be two or three decisions to make. Wait until any injuries crop up. There's no need to set the staff before an exhibition a game has been played) and more than a month before the season starts).

Why is Myers in and Britton, Bruney,or one of the other young guns not in? Do we really need to carry a pitcher who just faces big Papi. He was good against him but seriosly he hardly pitched last year until the end of the season when the division was clinched. He can hardly through strikes either. His 79 mph fastball is a joke. Papi prob. been practicing on sub-mariners and is gonna own him anyway this year. Out with the old.

Let's remember one thing about Britton. He didn't pitch in the 7th and 8th innings last year. So, comparing him to Farnsworth and Villone is not exactly apples to apples.

Let's see how he does in the spring. Personally, I like both Bruney and Britton but, I want to see how each guy pitches during the spring.

It isn't the end of the world if one or both guys start the year in AAA. There are going to be injuries and there will be a need to go to Scranton and get help during the season.

Its nice to have options for a change, rather than "needing" the Colter Bean's of the world to help you out when injuries occur.

Villone was great last year until Torre blew him out. That's on Torre, not on Villone.

A rested Villone is an asset, IMO. The big thing though is our starters must pitch deeper into games this season. All too often, the Yankees have been victims of the dreaded 5-6 inning start 2-3 times a week. That messes up your bullpen for a week at a time.

If the starters can go deeper into games, the bullpen issues will be minimal this season.

SJ is correct - Henn should not be discussed as a viable option over villone or meyers because he is done little to show he could be good in the major leagues. His minor league numbers are not very impressive. The same goes for Bruney - he has s shown he can dominate for 20 innings but lets see him pitch during the spring without walking one batter per inning. I like his fastball but i dont want any reliever who cant throw the ball over the plate - a reliever who cant control his fastball should not be in the major leagues. Lets see how he does this spring.

I cant believe Joe has already decided villone is going to be on the team pushing a guy like Britton to the curb. Britton had better numbers last yr than almost every one in the yanks pen and they were all facing similar competition. In my mind, Britton should make the team and Villone should have to prove his value during spring in order to go up north.
