Kei Igawa had a nice debut for the Yankees yesterday in the intrasquad game. He threw two scoreless innings.

In the notebook there is word from Bobby Abreu on his injury and some details on the intrasquad game.

Today is the last day to e-mail me questions for Derek Jeter for possible use in our blog-only Q&A on Sunday. There have been, at last count, 181 submissions from nine countries. One question per person and make it a good one.

The Yankees have a quick workout planned today in advance of tomorrow’s exhibition opener. I’m hoping to get a little down time myself this afternoon. But we will have some posts later on.

Then again, I’m about to go on line and check the status of my 401-K. I may not feel like working then.

Trying to come up with the perfect Derek Jeter question has consumed me. But I’ll have something in by 11:59 pm.

Good luck with the 401-K thing. If we don’t hear from you again we’ll assume it went well.

“Matsuzaka is also talking with Andy Pettitte about his cutter.”

    I assume you mean Igawa?

  3. TurnTwo

may not feel like working, or may feel like you need to take on 2 or 3 more writing gigs… good luck with that!

9 countries!?! Yer gettin’ around Peter. I’m gonna try and guess them.

U.S., Canada, Japan, Iraq, D.R., P.R., U.K., Panama, and Taiwan.

    Close?

Pete, congratulations on your 1 year anniversary blogging, which I understand was yesterday. Great job on this blog providing consistent, reliable information with a decided witty edge. Simply great reporting.

When checking your 401(k) you may find that some of the proceeds may have had to be redirected to the fund for the new Gannett fleet of corporate jets. However your name will be engraved (embossed) on a plaque in the new mahogony and marble men’s room next to the executive dining room at corporate headquarters to thank you for all your contributions.

Its a trade. Matsuzaka will teach Pettitte the gyroball in exchange for his cutter.

  8. Peter Abraham

Yes, Igawa. Confused my Japanese guys there.

  9. Homer Simpson

    Mmmm…gyroball.

Peter, did you spend any of your offseason hanging with David Ortiz? :-) (just kidding)

“I don’t remember what Matsuzaka looked like till I saw him this winter,” Ortiz said. “I always tell people that everybody looks the same to me in Japan.”

“I know there’s going to be one pitching every five days and another one coming into the game every day.”

How Ortiz can get away with comments like that is beyond me.

Nice article on Igawa!! I really like this guy. The openness and humility in his comment about Posada, “I will continue to learn from him (Posada)”. And I liked his comment about Yogi.

  13. Bill Porter

I love the caption under the “picture of Jeter” in the Asbury Park Press. Jeez he is good: masquerading as Jamal Crawford and playing a spring training game at the same time. Peter, would you mind asking him how he pulled that one off?

  14. Wolf In Pinstripes

Great article, Pete. Kei is certainly going to be a likable character, even more so if he produces well on the field this year.

    Pete,

Question on the Igawa article. You mentioned that Matsuzaka’s wife is voluptuous. I’m Japanese and I’ve yet to see a “voluptuous” Japanese woman. They’re either thin or plump. Nothing in the Pamela Sue Anderson or Sofia Loren category. Is she really voluptuous? Like Matsuzaka’s muscular and Schilling came in at last year’s weight? Just wondering. lol.

  16. Peter Abraham

Mel: All I can tell you is that Mrs. Matsuzaka is known as “Rockets” in Japan. She is Japanese Pam Anderson.

    Pete,

Like the FemBots in Austin Powers? Oh, my. She’ll be the talk of Beantown.
