Matt DeSalvo is back with the Yankees after a rough 2006 season. I wrote that he looks like Matthew Broderick. More in a “Biloxi Blues” kind of way.

Meanwhile, the exhibition opener is today at 1:15. Yankees vs. Twins.

Our plan will be to post as the lineup once it becomes available. Then during the game we’ll post some updates and observations. In spring training, the clubhouse opens for the media in the fifth or sixth inning because players who leave the game are free to go home.

Finally, a shout out to my buddy and co-worker Sam Weinman. He won two awards in the annual AP Sports Editors national writing contest. My newspaper was recognized five times in our category. Other than the Times, no paper in the metropolitan area collected more hardware.

Great article on DeSalvo. He sounds like a pretty interesting guy (how often do baseball players talk about Camus?).

Interesting article, Pete. You have to wonder, though, after going through whatever he did last year, and not being able to separate on/off-field stuff, will he be able to do that going forward?

In that shot, I think he looks more like Keanu Reeves than like Broderick.
