Mike Mussina needed 34 pitches to get through two innings. He allowed one run on two hits. Brad Eldred homered off him in the second inning.

The Moose threw his breaking pitches for strikes but seemed to have trouble locating his fastball.

The Yankees had two hits off Pitt starter Shane Youmans but did not score. Hideki Matsui doubled in the first and Josh Phelps had a single off the third-base bag in the second. He was thrown out by 10 feet trying to get to second.
