The Tigers look like they found another good arm in Miller. Well, not exactly found as he was the best prospect in last yrs draft.

  2. Emobacca March 5th, 2007 at 10:06 am

I still cant believe 5 teams passed on him. They are going to regret being so cheap. Especially a team like the Pirates whose first round pick (Brad Lincoln) has already been plauged by injuries

  3. DW March 5th, 2007 at 10:08 am

Sounds like it’s going to be a good game. I’m looking forward to seeing Igawa, even if it’s just on TV. My parents will be there though…lucky!

  4. Todd Drew March 5th, 2007 at 10:21 am

Sheff will be a good test for Igawa. Right-handed hitters don’t come much tougher.

  5. Rich March 5th, 2007 at 10:27 am

I’m looking forward to seeing Clippard pitch.

  6. rbj March 5th, 2007 at 10:32 am

Won’t be able to see the game but I’ll get to hear it on the radio.

I’d just like to tell the Yankees to save some for the regular season — always nervous when the team does well in ST.

BTW, Peter, how’s Carl feeling today?

  7. RJPinstripes March 5th, 2007 at 10:42 am

I think that they will have a re-run of the game on YES tonight (probably 7:00) They did for the March 1st game vs the Twins. Sure hope they do this on all the day games!

  8. cjc March 5th, 2007 at 10:55 am

alert the nyyfans board CLippard will pitch today

  9. Stormy March 5th, 2007 at 11:10 am

I’m looking forward to seeing Kei pitch and seeing Clippard handle some big-league hitters (if any are still in the game by that point).

I wouldn’t be shocked if Sheffield blasted a home run to the moon off of Igawa. He eats up left-handed pitching and Igawa does give up the long ball. Hopefully Sheffield will try so hard to hit a home run he’ll corkscrew himself right into the ground, which he did many times as a Yankee.

  10. Scooter March 5th, 2007 at 11:18 am

    Pete -
You think you’ll get a chance to interview Sheffield before or after the game? As always, it would make for interesting reading

Sardinha has really been solid at the plate this spring. The guy was a #1 pick a few years back. Any comments from Long or Mattingly on the guy?

Is there a schedule when teams have to send a certain number of players down to the minors (like the NFL who requires cuts during the preseason every several weeks going down to the start of the regular season), or is it just that the team has seen enough and have established that they need more minor league time?

  12. mel March 5th, 2007 at 11:41 am

    Scooter,

I’m glad there’s someone else watching Sardinha. He’s from Hawaii and is actually 1 of 3 Sardinha boys in the minors. Shane Victorino of the Phillies is also from Hawaii and it’s nice to see him find a place on that team.

We don’t have pro sports in Hawaii so we follow our kids pretty seriously. Hope Sardinha is part of the Yankee future.

  13. Paulâ„¢ March 5th, 2007 at 11:54 am

Mel, I thought one of the NL teams, maybe Milwaukee, had an AAA team that played at Aloha Stadium on Oahu. Did they relocate?

  14. Phil March 5th, 2007 at 11:57 am

What’s up with Cano? He hasn’t played in a couple of days.

  15. Jimmy D March 5th, 2007 at 11:59 am

Actually Phil, Cano played in yesterday’s game against Philly. He was off Saturday. Each one of the starters rested one game this weekend.

  16. cjc March 5th, 2007 at 12:02 pm

    Phil he played yesterday

  17. mel March 5th, 2007 at 12:08 pm

    Paul,

Not sure. The last baseball team we had was the Islanders in the minor leaques and that was a long time ago.

They did revive the Hawaii Winter Baseball season and it was good. Colby Clemens was here. Japan had teams. The Yankees had Chamberlain, Garcia, and Kennedy and their pitching coach and trainer were on one of the teams which was managed by a Red Sox coach. Next year Korea wants to send a team. Ichiro, Giambi all came through here so we’re kind of excited to see the future stars play here.

  18. Scooter March 5th, 2007 at 12:28 pm

    Mel -

I don’t know if you caught the Phillies/Yankees game yesterday – Victorino talked about hanging out and working out with Sardinha in Hawaii. Longtime Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas even showed off a little Hawaiian.

Sardinha seemed like a bust until last year – something clicked, and he hit well at AA and AAA. There’s some solid outfielders coming up (Gardner, Tabata, and Curtis), so Sardinha needs to have a solid year this year.

The HBL really did a solid job promoting itself – there were even free radio broadcasts on the website. Sounded like Chamberlain really established himself as a major prospect in the offseason. With Kennedy and Marquez, it seemed like they were victims of poor defense

  19. Doreen March 5th, 2007 at 12:31 pm

RJPinstripes — the games is definitely being re-run at 7 pm on YES.

  20. Phil March 5th, 2007 at 12:46 pm

    Thanks guys!

  21. mel March 5th, 2007 at 12:47 pm

    Scooter,

No, I didn’t catch yesterday’s game. Thanks for the updates. Hawaii kids tend to be smaller, so they have to work a little harder to get noticed. We’re really proud of the local kids that make it big in sports. Oh, yeah. Obama Barak’s from here, too. lol.

  22. Sean March 5th, 2007 at 1:26 pm

Cano is playing. YES announced him.

  23. Josh March 5th, 2007 at 1:30 pm

Igawa is definately not being his advertised self today, nothing to be alarmed about though, as wild as he is, hes def getting squeezed on a couple of those pitches

  24. duderino March 5th, 2007 at 1:36 pm

    The ump is an idiot.

  25. Rudy March 5th, 2007 at 1:41 pm

does anyone know which radio station is broadcasting the game if they are. thanks

  26. Sean March 5th, 2007 at 1:45 pm

wcbs i believe, yanks just extended their contract.

  27. Annie Savoy March 5th, 2007 at 7:08 pm

Bronson Sardinha – wonder if he will turn into this years’ Melky Cabrera? That walk off home run will be a great memory for him with the Big Team. And, the smile…………
