LHP Kei Igawa was scheduled for three innings against the Tigers today. He lasted only one batter into the second inning.

Igawa allowed two runs on two hits, three walks and three strikeouts. He threw 40 pitches, 20 strikes.

Igawa was wild but he did get squeezed a few times by Larry Young, especially on a 2-2 pitch to Gary Sheffield.

Hideki Matsui took his countryman off the hook by cracking a two-run homer to right field in the second inning off Justin Verlander. The Yankees now lead 3-2.
