Yankees beat Pirates 5-3

The Yankees improved to 8-1-1 by beating the Pirates 5-3 at McKechnie Field. Eric Duncan’s two-run homer in the ninth won it.

Kei Igawa (3 5 2 2 0 4) threw 40 pitches and was pitching well until Ronny Paulino belted a two-run homer in the third inning. Ron Guidry said he topped out at 91 mph but had a good slider and change.

It is becoming difficult to get good answers out of Igawa. His translator kind of gives us a feel of what he says instead of the exact words. We’re working on getting that changed.

It’s interesting to note that Igawa wore sunglasses while he pitched today. Most games in Japan are played in domed stadiums or at night and the sunlight bothered him.

“He asked us and we said it was OK,” Guidry said.

Sorry about the blog being messed up. They’re working on a server upgrade and somehow the template vanished. But it’ll get fixed eventually.

No audio today. Everything was outside and the background noise was loud.
