NCAA tournament breakdown

I love me the NCAA tournament. I covered UConn hoops for a bunch of years before I switched over to baseball and this was the best time of the year.

Here is who I like:

Final Four: Wisconsin, Kansas, Texas and Texas A&M.

Upset specials: North Texas over Memphis, GW over Vandy, Georgia Tech over UNLV, Gonzaga over Indiana, Texas Tech over BC.

Best potential second-round games: Notre Dame-Oregon, Duke-Pitt, Zaga-UCLA, Ohio State-Xavier, Louisville-A&M.

Best region: West. Nobody is playing better than Kansas but UCLA can stay in Cali for all four games.

Wackiest region: South. You can make a case for several teams. I see a lot of first-round upsets.

Sweet 16 surprise: Creighton.

What a travesty: How does UMass (23-8) not get in? Not only do the Minutemen have a heck of a team but UMass is one of the finest academic schools in the world.

Parting shots: No love for Florida. They can’t defend. Watched them give up easy buckets too often this season. … I’ll take Kevin Durant over Greg Oden every day of the week. … Texas A&M coach Billy Gillispie is either going to get paid big money or take off for the ACC or Big 10. Michigan maybe? … Weak, weak showing for the metropolitan area. The teams closest to NYC to make the tournament? Albany and Central Connecticut State. Yikes.
