Chien-Ming Wang allowed a first-inning home run by David Dellucci (a bomb to center) but was otherwise strong against the Indians.

The main from Taiwan allowed three hits and struck out four in his four innings with one walk. One of the hits was a grounder than Robinson Cano would have handled but Miguel Cairo let tick off his glove.

Wang threw 61 pitches, 39 for strikes.

The final out Wang got was a memorable one. Andy Marte hit a hard grounder to Alex Rodriguez that clanged off his glove and into the air. Derek Jeter snapped it out of the air and threw out Marte by a step.

Despite pitching so well, Wang left trailing 1-0 as Fausto Carmona baffled the Yankees for three innings, allowing only a single by Johnny Damon before retiring nine straight.
