Here is the lineup:

YANKEES
Melky Cabrera CF
Robinson Cano 2B
Jason Giambi DH
Hideki Matsui LF
Todd Pratt C
Josh Phelps 1B
Kevin Reese RF
Chris Basak 3B
Alberto Gonzalez SS
Carl Pavano RHP

Pregame chatter: Darrell Rasner and Ross Ohlendorf are scheduled to follow Pavano to the mound. The Yankees are also taking along Colter Bean, Sean Henn, Jeff Kennard, Ben Kozlowski and Kevin Whelan. … Back later with a report from Fort Myers once we arrive. That’ll be a few hours, unfortunately.

Four good players and a pile of scrubs. I wonder if Pavano will manage to walk off the field under his own power…

phelps has had a decent spring…being a rule five how does his status work?? does he have to stay on the 25 or the 40??and if the orioles dont take him back could he be reassigned to the minors??

Phelps has to stay on the 25 man roster all year, or be offered back to the O’s for $25k. If they don’t want him, he has to clear waivers before he can go to the minors.

Speaking of Pavano, an excerpt from Michael Morrissey’s new book has made it into the NY Post.

It doesn’t paint a good picture of Pavano or his relationship with the guys inside the clubhouse.

Pete – do you think Moose and others have delivered the message to Carl that he needs to work at improving these relationships? Or do you think that ship has sailed already?

Why do I have a sinking suspicion that Carl Pavano will come up with a sore back during the bus ride, only to “tweak” a muscle while pitching badly enough to go on the 60-day DL?

Maybe I’m missing something, but as far as I can tell — and I’ve searched tv listings and the YES website — Yankees fans won’t be able to watch the Sox-Yanks game live tonight. YES will run a taped version at 11pm.

It’s the only Sox-Yanks game of the spring. Seems like a cynical decision to me.

watching pavano tonight is can’t miss tv. i’m hoping for the best , but prepared for the worst. even though this is just a spring training game, this game may give yankee fans a clue about pavano’s ability to compete. it’s as good a time as any for him to step up.

i’m going to OD on YES programming tonight…

I’m in Bergen co. i have cablevision it is on either channel 414 or 14. so check you cable guide.

Well, if YES doesn’t have it, hopefully for me NESN will (I get both – one of the privileges of being in central CT).

Theres a Nets game on which apparently trumps showing this game live. Not that I give a crap about the Nets or basketball in general, but that was an easy call to make. A game that counts for something (kind of…) versus a game that counts for nothing… easy decision.

  12. Chris NY March 12th, 2007 at 4:06 pm

Rob, looks like it’s on NESN. “TONIGHT 3/12: Red Sox Spring Break (HD) at 6:30 p.m. Red Sox vs. Yankees at 7 p.m”

Luckily, I’m up in Boston on business, might actually be able to finally catch a game.

    10019,
I that’s your zip, you should know better. New Yorkers only care about three sports: baseball, baseball and baseball.

  14. 10019 March 12th, 2007 at 5:18 pm

That is my zip code, and your right, I only care about baseball too, but you can be sure that YES is contractually mandated to air that Nets game.

  15. Todd Drew March 12th, 2007 at 5:26 pm

    10019,
Just having fun. I think we both agree that’s a bad contract. It’s going to be a late night.

I asked the question on the most recent post but found my answer here. Thanks guys!

  17. Gayle March 12th, 2007 at 6:14 pm

it is on live on mlb.com (it is the NESN broadcast)

  18. Gayle March 12th, 2007 at 6:15 pm

Scooter – I dont think this is anything new and as fas I am aware Moose already and Pavano already dealt with this issue early in Spring training I dont think Moose eneds to say anymore
