You have to love Johnny Damon, vol. 34

The fans pressed up against the fence near the Yankees’ clubhouse in right field were howling for Johnny Damon when he came off the field.

Once he got in the clubhouse, he turned to a few of us and smiled.

“It’s unbelieveable a not-so-good ballplayer can create such a stir,” he said.

OK lets start some trouble –

If Ichiro gets fed up in Seattle and hits the open market next summer, do the Yanks go after him for some more speed at the top of the line up and move Damon down to hit 7th or 8th, or do we resign OBP machine Abreu?

Or do we hand it over to Cabrera?
Or maybe go after a right handed bat and keep Cabrera as 4th outfielder?

    Any thoughts?

The answer is Cabrera. The Yankees will look to get younger, and Ichiro does not qualify for that categorization. The Yankees also will look to get less expensive, and Ichiro does not qualify for that categorization also. Cabrera, Thompson, Reece, Gardner and Tabata are the next outfielders you will see patrolling the outfield over the coming few years.

I still thin that an outfield of Soriano in left, Rivera in right, Thames in center and Cabrera in any field would be better than what they have today.
