A few notes and a Yogi story

A few nuggets from Joe Torre’s pre-game with us:

— Melky Cabrera is 7 for 41 this spring. Torre thinks he’s a little pull happy and talked to him today about using the rest of the field.

— Bobby Abreu had a good BP (Joe stayed behind to watch) and even checked his swing a few times without pain.

— Don Mattingly is back with the team following the death of his father.

Finally, there’s always room for a Yogi Berra story. Joe drives to away games himself, usually with Yogi, Ron Guidry and Mattingly.

Anyway, it was a long boring drive from Kissimmee back to Tampa yesterday, two hours of traffic. Joe said that Yogi was reading a paper and fell asleep still holding the paper in front of him.

“That’s hard to do,” Torre said. “We all though he was reading and he was fast asleep.”
