Igawa states his case

Five innings, no runs two singles (one on a bad hop), three walks and three strikeouts. 65 pitches/38 strikes against a lineup that included Ryan Howard and Pat Burrell.

I don’t believe he will come out for the sixth.

The lefty needed a game like this to squash the idea of Jeff Karstens taking his spot in the rotation.

Igawa is an interesting pitcher and he could prove to be a very good No. 5 starter. Karstens will get his chance. The odds of Carl Pavano making 33 starts for the Yankees are slim.

1-0 Yankees in the fifth.
