Just another day at spring training

images1.jpgMLB senior vice president of security Kevin Hallinan is meeting with the team today. It’s something they do annually.

It’s an elaborate presentation that includes a film and a live demonstration of how easy it would for somebody to slip something into your drink at a bar. Hallinan’s staff even has a portable bar they set up.

They happened to set up the bar right in front of Jason Giambi’s locker, which had several teammates snickering given his reputation for enjoying the nightlife.

I couldn’t resist asking Giambi what he thought.

“This part of your contract, Jason?” I said.

“It’s great,” he said with a laugh. “They’re cutting out the middle man. Half of these security guys wouldn’t have jobs if it wasn’t for me.”

What’s next? A demonstration on how to order in room porn on road trips with the TV set up in Matsui’s locker?

  2. Bob Merc

Absolutely CLASSIC setting up in front of Giambi’s locker!!! I wonder if Mastercard reads this blog…this may beat Steinbrenner line dancing!!!

I think the next demo for the players is on what they like to call wealth management. (joke).

Gosh.. with the blog out of commission most of the afternoon, I actually had to (gulp) work. Ewww.

I’m with Stacey – what is this dreck about HS students with tape on their doors? If I’m going to cheat my employer by reading this blog, I want YANKEE talk.

4 guys who SHOULD make the 25 man team:
    Basak, Henn, Chavez, Phelps
the 4 guys who WILL be kept:
    Cairo, Villone, Pratt, Phillips

Read Tom Verducci’s article in SI.com concerning the extreme age of our Pinstripers. Is it the age of our heros that caused us to look so lifeless vs. Detroit?

Will they set up a club in front of Jeter’s locker to teach the guys how to act in clubs?

If Kevin Brown was still around, they’d set up an anger management simulator in his locker…

  6. marcus

I think Verducci’s age is affecting his writing.

  7. Rich

    Jason is eminently likable.

It wouldn’t be the first time.

Henn and Chavez? I don’t think so.

Zender, its not like Pete is replacing this post with another post that he would of made more to do with “baseball”, I know I personally enjoy the behind the scene stuff Pete post thats what makes this blog different and the most visited by Yankee fans. You want some regular boring straight baseball blog why dont you pay a couple of bucks for Peter Gammons Espn insider.

  12. G For Giambino/Sandman

OFF TOPIC but a buddy of mine found this on the tube. Thought I’d share it with those interested.

I thought the blog entry was funny. I was just posting what I thought would be the next presentation.

We all want to hear Yankee talk…it’s a GOOD THING…but remember something peeps…as Jeff A. said…we can find straight forward baseball talk…ANYWHERE…ANYTIME! I happen to think Pete has done a fantastic job with this blog…we are not going to always agree with everything that happens here…or his opinions. BUT…you have to admit one thing…we keep coming back for more!!! Fan is short for fanatic, and that’s what we are! Here’s the main idea of all of this…GO YANKEES!!! Btw…I have posted at Curt Schilling’s blog…All of you should too if ya get what I mean!!!
