A swarm of bees flew over Ed Smith Field yesterday and didn’t attack Carl Pavano. Perhaps his luck has changed.
Yesterday was a prime example of why spring training stats can be so misleading. Pavano allowed eight hits in 4.1 innings. But two of the hits were grounders that Jason Giambi (playing 1B in a NL park) never saw. Two others were just out of the reach of infielders. Pavano actually pitched pretty well.
Alex Rodriguez says he is not distracted by all the contract talk and proved it by hitting a home run. This notebook also has news on Bobby Abreu, Andy Pettitte, Chien-Ming Wang and Scott Proctor.
Yankees at Pirates this afternoon. Darrell Rasner against old friend Shawn Chacon. Back later with the lineups.
The wireless is a bit spotty at Bradenton but we do our best to blog the first five innings or so.
