The Yankees only play 10 innnings in Spring Training. The Reds game I was at stopped after 10 with the two teams still tied.

Horrific? I'd hardly describe it that way. Igawa and Pavano can probably be league-average, assuming they stay on the field. Rasner or Karstens can do the same. Pettitte looks outstanding, and Mussina is getting there. With our offense, and considering that Minky can take a walk, we'll be fine. Plus, we have an extremely deep bullpen with spare parts in AAA in case a few pitchers don't work out. Chris Britton, who was the second-best pitcher in the Baltimore pen last year, is a hell of a backup plan. The Yankees basically need quality starts, then they can turn it over to the pen. Stop panicking.

This horrific pitching situation is why you can't afford to have a 1st baseman who cannot hit! The Yanks will need each spot in the order to be a legit threat, and they'll need a ton of runs to win many of these games.

Did Mussina make it through his outing healthy? I find it a real thrill these days when we make it through a 24-hour period without losing a starting pitcher.

The trade worth watching for this year is the one Cashman pulls off to (1) put the A-Rod saga behind us forever, and (2) solidify his place as the best GM of our time.

A-Rod to his home town Marlins, along with a pile of cash and a pitcher named Pavano, and maybe a few righthanded relievers, for Miggy Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis.

Peter, do they play more than 10-11 innings in ST games? It doesn't make sense to run through a bullpen for 18 innings in a meaningless game.
