Chien-Ming Wang was “very very sad” yesterday when he learned he was headed for the disabled list. But it could have been a lot worse.
Meanwhile, they’re having snowball fights in hell as Carl Pavano may start Opening Day. Nobody saw this coming. Plenty of other updates within this notebook.
Yankees at Tigers today with Jeff Karstens on the mound. Back later with the lineups. The game is on YES.

Hi,Pete.I enjoy your article about Wang which is different perspetive from others.
I just saw more news in Taiwan about Wang.Taiwanese media actually ask him about missing opener. He said and believe no matter who get that job will do their best. For him,it’s not different to pitch in opener, minor games,or playoff games. He always does his best.Wan say he will does his best to get healthy as soon as he can. This is the only thing he think now.
How the tough guy he is.
People in Taiwan feel pretty sad for him.A lot of people are more upset than Wang himself I think. They all say they can feel Wang is upset even though he didn’t say it.But a lot of baseball fans in Taiwan actually feel Pettite and Missina are also very suitable choices for opener at the beginning.Of course, those baseball fans don’t include some Taiwanese don’t understand baseball at all, especially MLB.They just root for Wang for obvious reason.
I Blame Damon for jinxing the Yankees. Johnny Damon told the New York Post last week — “We’re the best team” — is no different from what he said after the Tigers eliminated the Yankees in four games in the American League Division Series: “The best teams don’t always win.”
Now Chien Ming Wang is out till mid April. Worst Case Scenario Pavano’s opening day starter.
I think Pavano start opening day is ok,but the Ray’s starter is Scott Kazmir..Wow…That’s intersting… Pavano should deserve some prussure, if he does not perform well, I think the fans will be very loudly…..
I can’t wait to watch the game.
And hope Wang come back soon, just 1 month ,I think yankee is good team to overcome it. Last year yankee lost some players ,but ,you konw, number1 in AL,So, without Wang a month, yankee still the top…
“Worser” case scenarios for Opening Day: Jaret Wright and Shawn Chacon, just to name two. Yes, fans, it could have been much worse.
Kernan over at The Post has the Yankees dead on arrival if they don’t push the panic button and sign Rocket NOW. Some points to consider before “Going Roger Too Early” :
1. Rocket is not MLB ready for another 6 weeks, so the pundits say.
2. Wang is not dead, he’s got a Grade 1 hammy tear, and is currently due back by May at the latest.
3. The winner of the AL East is not decided at the end of April.
4. Rocket is a miracle on two legs but sooner or later, time will win out – he’s a trip to the DL waiting to happen – and he may be a sentimental, but poor, investment.
Meanwhile Boston Herald Tony Massaroti says The Redsox can repeat their success in 2004 by signing Roger.

Rocket fuel: With a sudden opening in the Red Sox’ otherwise-loaded starting rotation, Rogers Clemens would look awfully good back in a Red Sox uniform
It will be a nightmare if Redsox sign Roger and return to Boston…
When do the full-year minor league teams begin their seasons? I was wondering because players like Wang would be able to rehab under game conditions if Scranton or Tampa or any of their teams are playing in April.
I know it’s a problem for rehabbing players trying to come back in September after the minor leagues have shut down.
Kevin Kernan should put his mind in gear before he puts hismuth in motion – he is a good reason why I have decided not to follow the NY media with the execption of writers such as Peter – the ones at the Post and News ahve gotten “full of themselves” and lakc perspective and judgment.
Wasn’t Pavano’s getting hurt the reason Wang got his shot to begin with. Now Wang gets hurt an Pavano gets his first opening day nod and first game in 1 and half years. WEIRD
