Kei Igawa’s numbers this spring are prettty good. Almost as good as Daisuke Matsuzaka. Maybe the Yankees have something.

Andy Pettitte is feeling much better, thank you. The notebook also has the good news for Jeff Karstens.

Jessica: we heard not until april 1. How did you get it?

  3. Jake

Igawa misses a ton of bats for a guy who throws 92 tops.

not to mention that dice-k had a two or three inning start rained out in which he gave up a run or two……that what give a slight edge to iggy minus the walks

Sadly there is no chance that Igawa and Dice-K are comparable. Both their games were going on simultaneously yesterday it was crystal clear Dice-K had far better stuff. His breaking balls were sharp and his heater was hard. All i saw of Igawa was slow stuff left up in the zone that AL east hitters will be crushing by late april. Yanks should have gone after Dice-K harder

So can someone tell me why does it take 104 pitches for Matsuzaka to get through 5-innings against the Reds (who are not AL East hitters)? if his breaking balls are sharp and heaters are hard and he has pinpoint control? where do all the pitches go? did he just purposely wasting 3 pitches on every guy he faced?

    Mike from Matsuzaka Watch:

Judging from your blog, you clearly cannot stop GUSHING about Matsuzaka being the baseball equivalent of Roger Federer, how can we trust your overly optimistic opinion of him???

I say Wang is the BEST Asian import, NOT Dice-K.

Aren’t their comparable WHIPs something like 27/17 for Igawa and 16/18 for Matsuzaka?
