Joe Torre audio from today

Here is Joe discussing the moves with us in his office this morning.

To clarify a few things: Yes, it seems like Brian Bruney is on the team but they haven’t told all the pitchers their fate yet, so they’re holding some stuff back for a while.

no audio here, but i can’t belive they announced henn will be going to the bronx while it’s still up in the air for bruney?

Henn and Bruney are two separate decisions – lefties vs. righties. That’s the way MLB bullpens work.

Pete – what was the question that Joe answerwed “still in the talking stage” to?

    GREAT to have this unfiltered!!

Can’t wait for the “story” that spins Joe’s comment re Carl not feeling right into him having been “hurt” since he was signed.

are we sure Torre wasn’t attacked by a body snatcher. Whe you have young guy in camp pitch well you have to reward him thats not our Joe. Scary What happened to we take the vet no matter how bad he is.

There are some good quotes about Andy and from Pratt at mlb.com. Andy asked Joe if Phelps knew because he wanted to congratulate him. Such class! Pratt said he enjoyed his time with the club. Both seem like good guys and I wish the best for them.

It’s got to be one of the hardest jobs in the world to let someone go (and not just in baseball). It’s got to be that much more difficult when the people involved are professional and personable people. But to have not chosen Phelps over Phillips would have been to make a mockery out of spring training competition. I am torn whether I hope Phillips clears waivers and stays with the Yankees (to be called up at a later date), or that he gets picked up by someone else for their major league team. Anyway, what a class act.

Before we all freak out and call the year a wash because Pavano is pitching opening day etc., let’s remember that the team we take the playoffs is usually not the same team we leave spring training with. Cashman will find a way to improve the team at the trade deadline if needed–he did last year with Abreu.

I’m not freaking out. Opening Day is great because it’s the first game of the new season after the drought of the off season. Other than that, it’s just 1/162 of the season.

Pratt said that he still hopes to play in the Major Leagues this season and that Cashman said he would make calls on the catcher’s behalf.

    ___

Wow shows you what they thought of Pratt if Cash is going to try to get him a job elsewhere.

“Before we all freak out and call the year a wash because Pavano is pitching opening day ”

why would we freak out? even if a lot of the media are not smart enough to realize that Pavano starting on opening day doesn’t mean he’s the yankees #1 starter, most of the people here are.

i’m actually amazed at how much some people are reading into the pavano on opening day thing. it’s embarrassing really.

What wasn’t Joe allowed to tell us?

worry or be confident in June.. This is a LONG season, many ups and downs be prepared.

the Yanks look better on paper then in yrs. They are younger, have more depth in the minors, less washed up players on there roster, and more flexibility to make a move if required then in yrs. This is because even though their payroll is crazy but it is less crazy then the last 2 years and they have more trading chips in the minors..

Their lineup is awesome, there bullpen depth is the best it has been in yrs., there starting pitching is a B but they have some options if it falters. These options are not Darrel May, Tim Redding, and similar junk pitchers…

    They are looking good…..
