Good for Andy, and good job all day Peter! You got the news on the blog as soon as possible, better than some other writers. It’s good that you take this blog as seriously as your stories in the paper. Thanks!
How did Andy seem, Pete? I mean, I know he won’t be thrilled to be in AAA, but was he happy to still be with the organization? And I’ll echo the thoughts above, you have done a great job today with the blog.
Yeah, good to hear Andy is still with us. How he handled this has to be applauded, he’s a class guy. And man, Peter, you are the BEST ever, I get tons more info here than all the other sites combined. Personally, living in NY, I never really cared for the Journal News much, but after seeing this blog, I’m seriously about to subscribe to it.
The other websites I enjoy (Replacement Level Yankees Weblog and Bronx Banter) both pulled their breaking news from “Peter Abraham’s great Yankee blog!”. Thanks for keeping us up to date! Glad to hear we are keeping Andy…the kid’s got class.
i think this is probably BAD news for Andy. had another team claimed him, maybe he would have had a shot to play in the majors. the marlins perhaps could have used him as Jacobs’ platoon partner.
i would think he would not be too thrilled about being passed over by every other team in MLB when he was available for nothing.
Andy seems like a genuinely great guy, and it’s too bad that he looks like a AAAA player at this point. Maybe he’ll move into coaching in a few years and have a role with the club that way. He’s definitely the kind of guy I’d like influencing the kids in the minors.
-injury or non-performance by Phelps (hope not)
-injury to Cano or ARod (god forbid)
-if Dougie flops and is waived and Phelps takes over as full-time 1B (in which case they will ‘need’ a late inning 1B)
-injury to Giambi (tho’ since Cairo can theoretically play first, a hitting OF (like KT) may get the nod
I suspect he’ll be making a few busrides this year from SWB.
I just don’t understand! If no one else wants him, then why do we want him? We have three people that can play 1st, 6 + Bernie who can play the outfield. Cairo can play 3rd. what is the reason for keeping him around?
Hope to see Andy on the field next Thursday at PNC Field here in NE PA along with Phil Hughes. Forecast as of today is for a high of 48 under cloudy skies. PLEASE don’t push Phil back!!!
Pete, from a fans view I can’t say enough about your great coverage all camp. Thanks!!!
Andy has a great glove at first, but if he wants to ever make it to a major league team, he needs to prove that he can hit consistantly, which is a tough assignment when you’re a platoon infielder at best.
I’m glad Phillips is still with the team, though. My guess is that the Yankees will get him some work in at all the infield positions and will give him a shot again next year to win a roster spot as the team’s utility man, based on what Cairo does this year.
not for nothing, but i think at this point in the season there’s got to be a ton of players passing through waivers simultaneously. also, i can see 1B as a position to cause a lot of logjams on other teams as well. at least more than most other positions.
and the logic implying that since nobody took him means he isn’t that good is just silly logic. we have some of the best scouts here and are lucky for that. correct me if i’m wrong, but didn’t arizona pass up on both wang and cano when we got randy from them?
from somebody that knows a little more, Andy is thrilled to still be a Yankee and always wants to be, but when he’s had enough, there are other things besides ball that he can and will move on too. He very talented in MANY areas!

I second what Joe wrote about the blog posts. Thanks. Peter, did they expect Phillips to clear?

I bet they’ll start trying Phillips in multiple positions to increase his chances of being on the club. He’s too well liked.
Good luck to Andy and It’s great news.

Best Yankee blog ever, Im checking in at least 5-10 times a day Pete, awesome updates.
Glad Andy is still in the family.
hes a class-A human being. sadly i dont ever see him panning out for this team

No Senor,,, Te gusta el queso?
Andy has many options to get a ticket back:
-injury or non-performance by Phelps (hope not)
-injury to Cano or ARod (god forbid)
-if Dougie flops and is waived and Phelps takes over as full-time 1B (in which case they will ‘need’ a late inning 1B)

I hope he agrees to be a coach, like Torre Tyson has done.

I can’t believe nobody would want him. You think he could be at least the back-up 1st baseman somewhere. Maybe he really isn’t good???

Moosic is a 2.5 hour limo ride from the Bronx.

so who is gonna play 1st in Scranton Phillips or Duncan? Duncan needs the time there more. He has more upside.
