Bobby Murcer audio from today

Bobby Murcer got a great ovation from the crowd and hugs from a bunch of Yankees (and plenty of media types, too).

Here’s the audio of his press conference. Yes, that’s applause at the end. If there is somebody involved in baseball who doesn’t like Bobby, I haven’t met them.

Bobby Murcer was my first “favorite player” – it was good to hear him strong and excited. Thanks for the audio.

What a satisfying Opening Day. I watched the game on YES and got several positive vibes:

Pavano’s line was not great and he needs to give Torre at least 6 innings with his starts, BUT he pitched around some tough spots, had his velocity up to 91-92 mph, and should improve his command and stamina with each successive start (provided he stays away from car crashes, of course).
As mediocre as his pitching line was, it was better than Boston’s PILLBURY DOUGHBOY experienced against the lowly Royals!

ARod had a difficult start with an error and 2 ks, but turned it around with a single (it was a shot and the shortstop had NO chance to play that first hop, Peter!), key stolen base and Homerun. He’s gonna have a monster year!
(By the way, ARod’s error was not a routine pop-up and should have been Posada’s catch – who is normally great on foul pops.)

The relief corps looked effective, highlighted by Mo’s awesome 9th, but this was the D-Rays, so the jury is still out on how good they can really be.

Many more hits by Yankee batters with RISP, something that’s been missing for the last few years.

Defensively, Phelps is, sadly, a right-handed Giambi at 1st. But he’s not played there extensively and is young enough to improve.

It was great to see classy Bobby Ray Murcer back in the broadcoast booth looking healthy and in good spirits. At one point between innings, the scoreboard showed Murcer’s Homerun that he hit the night after Thurman Munson’s funeral, and directed the crowd to the broadcast booth where the fans gave him a standing O along with the Yankee players in the dugout – what a touching moment for Bobby and all Murcer fans!

And the Yankees win the 1st of their 97 wins in 2007!

Pete – the numbers of ‘HITS’ is meaningless and very misleading. Tell your people to find out from your Host how many ‘Unique Visitors’ you get. Even this number is somewhat inflated by visits from webbots, but it is at least representative.

Pete – What makes this blog SOO much better than other blogs is the size of your content (not to mention your personal touch, audio clips, polls, etc.). Lots of other Yankee blogs post one HUGE essay-long recap of the day whereas you post lots of tiny posts. It is a lot easier to read yours, a lot easier to comment (since you dont talk in-depth about 500 different topics on 1 post), and you don’t come across as a lunatic because you keep your points short a sweet whereas other bloggers ramble on and get themselves in trouble.

    Keep up the good work!
