The right move. A good defender as well as a good pinch run option and a RH bat off the bench.

Shame that Matsui got hurt but, when you play in winter conditions, its inevitable somebody is going to get hurt.

Hope it was worth it to the Yankee organization to subject their fans and players to these horrible conditions this week. They could have postponed some of these games, instead of just one.

But, we all know they love the $$$ in the Bronx. That it put their bullpen on fumes this early in the year and got 2/3 of their OF hurt means nothing. They got the gate receipts for 5 of the 6 games. Hope they spend the money well. Like on another starter.

  2. Master Shake

Good choice. Solid defender, capable hitter and he gives us some speed off the bench.

  3. Phil

Hopefully this will mean Gardner to SWB, Tabata to Trenton, and Jackson to Tampa.

  4. Brandon

very good move I’m happy w/ this we add more speed to the lineup and versatility vs the Twins.

  5. Brandon

we’re stacked in the minors I just want these kids gaining some experience because the big bats are getting it done. BTW Pete can someone call up Tyler Clippard instead of Rasner next time please.

SJ44, Please take a deep breath and consider the content of your post before subjecting others to your odd views.

On the Lighter Side. Pal of mine is in New York working on an ESPN Yankee miniseries — to record Bob Shephard introducing the ‘77 lineup — and he’s got a press pass and he’s thrilled to be in the press box with the able-bodied members of the fourth estate and it’s the first inning, and A-Rod blasts a home run, and my pal, like the Yankee fan he is, lets out a happy cheer…

…and is promptly kicked out of the press box. No do-overs, no warning — and no prior notice. Kicked out without a hope or prayer.

There is no cheering in baseball. Or rather, the press box.

“Hopefully this will mean Gardner to SWB, Tabata to Trenton, and Jackson to Tampa”

Slow down there guy, all those moves would be based on those guys production at all these levels. The way you just posted those transactions is not the way top minor league talant is handled.

  9. Jeff A.

Tabata move up when he shows he can hit at Tampa, Gardner moves up if he shows the same promise he did in his short stint at Trenton, same with Jackson at Charleston. But out of all of those guys Gardner could be up in AAA from AA the quickest.

  10. Phil

Jeff A. don’t talk down to people. I’ve been following the Yankee minor leagues since the days of the Nashville Sounds. All three are killing the levels that they are at right now and it’s not too late to correct the mistakes that were made.

  11. Brandon

Jeff Tabata already was doing very well in ST this year w/ the big club and as of right now in Tampa he is hitting .667 w/ a few Hrs and just recently had a couple of 3 for 4 ABs. On top of that Gardner is looking good ,Jackson has improved and we still haven’t spoken about Battle and 17 year old Carlos Urena. CASE IN POINT WE’RE STACKED ;CD

  12. Brandon

WHOOPS MY BAD Tabata is hitting .750 now forgot they played Lakeland

  13. Andrew

Tabata could very well move up to AA by May and knocking on the major league door by September. He’s that good.

But don’t expect the Yanks to call him up in any situation this year, arbitration clocks are important and the kid’s only turning 19. And yes, I know Andruw Jones hit those homeruns when he was 19.

  14. SJ44

Interesting, my views are “odd” because you disagree with them?

Perhaps you think its a great idea to play games in the snow and in sub-freezing temperatures. Surely, it was great for the Yankees this week.

While you may disagree with my viewpoint, I hardly think its odd since other teams around baseball postponed games because of the weather.

Unless of course, you enjoy watching bad pitching, worse defense, and 3-4 key players get hurt in the first 5 games of the season.

  15. Brian Matheson

My guess, the Yanks move Tabata up to AA in a month or so, and he finishes the year there. Probably plays some winter ball, plays half a season of AAA and gets called up when someone gets injured, or in Sept, next year and never leaves NY. But this year in NY, no way!

All depends on whether, Abreu, Cabrera or possibly even Ichiro starts in right next year though.

  16. Jake

Its official. Bernie made a terrible decision.

  17. Doreen

SJ44 — I don’t understand. How do the Yankees lose money if they re-schedule the games?

Also, when you postpone games, you do throw off the rotation.

The other teams did not suffer injuries or have significant problems with their starting pitching.

It’s a really stinky streak of 5 games. Wait and see.

  18. Joe from Long Island

    Doreen –
You beat me to it. I kept waiting for Jae Seo, and then Trachsel and Bedard to pitch poorly. I guess our starting pitchers are in a slump. Thank goodness for our bullpen. Hope they pull out of it soon – like tomorrow.

  19. Jeff A.

I wasn’t talking down to you I just responded to what IO thought was a flawed statement. Maybe you worded it wrong but if you know about the minors you know that one guy moving up in AAA has absolutely nothing to do with other top players moving as well. And Tabata IMO wont be rushed most likely I think he will spend most of the year in Tampa.

  20. Stuart

I do not think the Yanks control if the game is played…

DOn’t MLB have control over that??/

ESPN always say stupid things, if the Yanks starters go on a roll they will say something different.. It is a long season..

  21. Phil

Jeff A. Actually, last June (I believe) the first time they were gonna promote one of the Kevins, they also promoted Sardinha, Gardner and Tabata, but when one of the pitchers got hurt they recinded the promotions and brought up Colter Bean instead. They were gonna promote Tabata to Tampa anyway last year, but as you know he got hurt.

  22. hmmm

“But, we all know they love the $$$ in the Bronx. That it put their bullpen on fumes this early in the year and got 2/3 of their OF hurt means nothing. They got the gate receipts for 5 of the 6 games.”

the yankees don’t make that decision.

so please stop talking out of your ….

  23. hmmm

do you think that if the yankees “decided” to postpone these games, they would not be played as home games later in the season? and don’t you think the yankees lost a ton of money on walk up ticket sales and lost concession sales from fans who left early or didn’t show up at all?

  24. Brandon

Phil you are absolutely correct w/ all of that , Tabata was set to move up the system quick at 18 !!! the only problem was he got his wrist hurt and they had to shut him down for the rest of the season , NYY fans don’t know about this kid but dammit when I went to Tampa the kid I saw he will be the best talented prospect out of the Yankees system sincce Soriano and yup right now this kid is better than Jeter and his upside is off the charts.

  25. Mike from CT (formerly of DC)

In the case of weather, the home team decides whether or not to play the game. Once the game has started, the umpires are in control of calling the game or not. I am sure there is consultation with the MLB offices, but ultimately it is the home teams decision to start the games.

  26. JohnC

Its only be a few games, and already you’ve got all these guys getting promoted? Way to quick. These guys could just as easilygo into a slump and then what? I do think Gardner will earn a mid season promotion to Triple A, maybe around the end of June. As for Tabata, I’d say if he is still dominating in mid June, then move him to Double A. He is bound to suffer some growing pains along the way, so I’d wait. Jackson should probably spend most of the year at Charleston. He strikes out way to much, and needs to be able to recognize certain pitches better.

  27. Phil

These are all guys who were thought to possibly be starting a level higher, so it’s not just a reaction to the hot starts they’ve got off to. Brett Gardner, for example, was at the fan cavalcade or whatever they called it for SWB… Jackson was thought to be starting in Tampa, and after Tabata raked in the big league camp it seemed like they might skip him up.
