it wasn't sarcasm. the question implied if he HAD to get off to a hot start b/c of BS with the media and the fans.

he said no.

of course he wants to ALWAYS do well, b/c it helps the team win.

I'm sure A-Rod's "No" only meant that it wouldn't have been the end of the world if he didn't get off to this hot start. That and/or sarcasm...

Jake - That's the first thing I thought. Kind of like asking the losing SuperBowl QB, "How do you feel about the loss"?

"I understand about not always having your best stuff, but his start against the D-Rays was putrid. His fastball was 84-85 tops, add that to his 78 MPH offspeed and theres really not much of a difference."

Are you Michael Kay?

Is it important to get off to a good start?

What kind of dumb question is that? I feel for these athletes having to sit there an answer these dumb questions. Whats he going to say? "I wished I started 0-26 with 13 K's. No dummy I want to bat a 1.000 and hit 80 homers and win 120 games. Smarten up."

Michael Kay made an interesting comment last night on YES after they did a post game and he was kinda brushing them off. Kay reminded us how Paul O'Neil used to brush people off when he was on a streak. You know baseball is a very superstitious sport...

The high socks by ARod are a tribute to his HS coach, Rich Hoffman. He and Minky, who played HS ball together, wore them one day during the spring when Hoffman came to visit them in Tampa. They decided to make it a year round tribute after that when both played well that day. Kind of an "Old School" tribute to go back to their HS days, play the game and have fun.

I'd bet that he'll have better stuff indoors than he did last week on the frozen tundra of Yankee Stadium.
