Hamstring strain for Mussina

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on Apr 11, 2007 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Mussina has what the Yankees are saying is a strained left hamstring. No word yet on the degree.

The strength and conditioning coaches – Marty Miller and Dana Cavalea – should be on the hot seat given the amount of strains the team has suffered.

i agree Peter. What are these guys doing in the off season?

  2. KMT April 11th, 2007 at 9:31 pm

That’s better than a groin pull, right?

    - KMT

  3. Brian April 11th, 2007 at 9:34 pm

I guess that’s better than a back or arm inury.

I’m sure we’ll see Moose sent to the DL. Any idea on who will be up to start in his spot?

    Karstens, perhaps?

  4. Andrew April 11th, 2007 at 9:34 pm

I wouldn’t say so. Hamstrings take forever to recover from – see Cano last year.

  5. Rocco April 11th, 2007 at 9:34 pm

red sox got 1 hit… ouch.

  6. wemisspaulie April 11th, 2007 at 9:35 pm

Well, it could be MUCH worse….much worse.

  7. sunny615 April 11th, 2007 at 9:36 pm

they were 6 inches from a no hitter.

  8. sunny615 April 11th, 2007 at 9:37 pm

    nice k by henn

  9. kris April 11th, 2007 at 9:38 pm

sorry espn and gammons, looks like dice-k and bosox got upstaged…

  10. Rocco April 11th, 2007 at 9:38 pm

so the red sox got 3 hit by the Rangers and 1 hit by the Mariners.

  11. Rob B April 11th, 2007 at 9:38 pm

This is a key game for Henn: see how he does with a slim lead. So far he’s done pretty good.

  12. kris April 11th, 2007 at 9:39 pm

oh and dice-k didn’t pitch a perfect game

  13. Chevy April 11th, 2007 at 9:42 pm

Very nice job by Henn so far.

I dont know about you, but im getting sick and tired of strained hamstrings.

  14. Chris NJ April 11th, 2007 at 9:44 pm

Brian, Karstens is currently on the DL too.

They’d probably give Sean Henn a start, he’s been really good in the long relief recently. Even though, I think he should stay in the bullpen as long relief. But I rather have Sean start a game then bring up Phil Hughes, Humbrto Sanchez, TYler Clippard, or anyone else down in the minors because I don’t think their quite ready yet.

  15. Eric April 11th, 2007 at 9:45 pm

I agree Peter re the conditioning coaches – this is ridiculous. I am concerned when the Yanks play Toronto and Boston – however maybe Henn can be a good starter – I am betraying my age but in 77 Guidry was supposed to be a reliever and as we know became a starter.

  16. sunny615 April 11th, 2007 at 9:46 pm

i wonder why rasner isn’t in? other than his ineffectiveness that is.

  17. Chris NJ April 11th, 2007 at 9:46 pm

Kris, pitching 7 innings, and giving up 3 runs is still pretty good. I’d take that from any of our starters any day. Now, pretty much everyone in our rotation is capable of better then that, but that’s still respectable.

  18. kris April 11th, 2007 at 9:47 pm

what does sean henn throw? i cant find a scouting report of him.

  19. jay destro April 11th, 2007 at 9:49 pm

humberto sanchez isnt ready due to elbow

sean henn should not move into the rotation just for the sake of keeping dead arm ronny off the team.

i would give clippard a start, however you start a ticking clock on arbitration if i am correct.

  20. SJ44 April 11th, 2007 at 9:49 pm

Good job by Henn. Three innings in a tough outing. Bad mistake to Punto on a 1-2 pitch but, overall, a solid job.

  21. Pekeris April 11th, 2007 at 9:49 pm

Championship team tend to be healthy teams. Looks like this is not the year for the Yanks.

  22. Alfred April 11th, 2007 at 9:51 pm

Could somebody start working on Proctor’s bionic arm? He’ll need it by end May at this rate… 5 appearances in 8 games already

  23. rainbowtrout April 11th, 2007 at 9:51 pm

The real Scott Proctor is back this season. Which means Torre will keep using him even though he is innefective.

  24. rainbowtrout April 11th, 2007 at 9:52 pm

And that’s why they call him Clueless Joe…

  25. Nigel April 11th, 2007 at 9:52 pm

Scott Proctor = Not good with runners on base.

  26. Pekeris April 11th, 2007 at 9:52 pm

Yanks being 2 hitted by Ortiz —that a lot more embrassing.

  27. SJ44 April 11th, 2007 at 9:52 pm

Yes, April 11 and the season is over because of one injury. Good call.

Those Cardinals last year were pretty healthy, weren’t they? No closer, Jeff Weaver in the rotation, Rolen playing with a bad back, etc.

Yup, they were healthy all year.

  28. Angel April 11th, 2007 at 9:55 pm

lol, I am sometimes staggered by the things people post on here, especially when its in a medium where they have time to reread something and decide NOT to post it because its boneheaded.

  29. rainbowtrout April 11th, 2007 at 9:56 pm

Well, this game will be a good test of the Yankee pen.

  30. SJ44 April 11th, 2007 at 9:59 pm

Yes, Proctor did a horrible job. Faced the heart of the order and gave up one hit. Terrible.

I think some of you need to realize its April and not everybody starts out of the chute on fire.

You work through the valley’s and Proctor did his job. Made some tough pitches after the Cuddayer hit and getting Morneau and Hunter in that situation is good work.

  31. kris April 11th, 2007 at 10:13 pm

I read that Sean Henn used to throw in the upper 90s, before he underwent TJ surgery. What pitches is he throwing now? How hard does he throw?

  32. SJ44 April 11th, 2007 at 10:28 pm

Poor job by Farnsworth tonight. He is usually a slow starter and he is showing why. Four pitch walk to the leadoff guy, then he crumbles.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Vizcaino or Proctor ends up being the 8th inning guy by June. Kyle is just too erratic to trust him in these type of spots.

Oh well, they won the series and that’s what matters. I’ll take 2 of 3 all year.

  33. wemisspaulie April 11th, 2007 at 10:32 pm

Pekeris, so, what happened? Your $100 million guy got the jitters at Fenway tonight and you thought you’d come over here to take out some anxiety? Bummer for you. Wait until he gets to Yankee stadium. :)

  34. Josh April 11th, 2007 at 10:56 pm

dont blame the conditioning coach, hamstrings can be strengthened and stretched al you want but if you move it the wrong way ur gonna strain it no matter what. its not like other areas, very susceptible to strain
