Report from Tampa: Wang feels fine

ph_425426.jpgI spoke to some of my friends in the Taiwanese media and they said Chien-Ming Wang came through his game in good shape this morning.

The particulars: Wang threw 56 pitches in an extended spring training game against Tampa Bay. He followed that with 15 more pitches in the bullpen.

Wang’s line: 5 0 0 0 1 6

Wang said his strained right hamstring was “100 percent better.”

“I’m feeling great,” he said. “I want to get back to New York.”

Not so fast. Wang threw almost entirely two-seam fastballs today and needs to work on his other pitches, control and velocity. He will throw in the bullpen on Tuesday and make another rehab start on Thursday.

That will either be in extended spring training again or for Class A Tampa against Clearwater at 7 p.m. If that goes well, we could see Wang in the rotation on April 24.
