Cashman: Here come the kids

Peter Abraham

Just spoke to Brian Cashman. He said the Yankees have decided who is pitching Tuesday but have not informed that player yet. Once that happens, the info will be made public.

Cashman said he expects Pavano to be out longer than Mussina.

“Injuries happen. I look at it as it’s an opportunity created for somebody else. Chien-Ming Wang replaced Kevin Brown two years ago and has done a great job for us,” Cashman said. “We have the players in the system to get through this.”

Because of the short-term nature of the injuries, Cashman said the holes will be filled from within. Karstens and Wang should be back soon and Mussina right around April 27.

So Kim Jones jumped the gun? Or reported info before she was supposed to. She definately said that Chase Wright will pitch Tuesday.

  2. Jeff NJ

You have to still think it’s Chase, I mean being that he is on the 40 man roster, has pitched lights out and had impressed Torre in the Spring. I hope it’s him.

  3. Jennifer

True he’s the only one on the 40 man, otherwise they’d have to make another move. If it is anyone of those three i’m excited to see them pitch on Tuesday.

  4. SJ44

Cashman, “expects Pavano to be out longer than Mussina”.

Truer words have never been spoken.

I applaud Cashman for looking to solve problems from within. This new generation of Yankee fans are so conditioned to go out and buy the biggest, brightest toy and that’s counterproductive to building a consistent, winning franchise in this new (ie: revenue sharing/luxury tax) model of baseball.

The Yankees don’t make the playoffs in 2005 without the contributions of Wang and Cano. They don’t make the playoffs last year without Cabrera.

This year, we have already seen what Brian Bruney can do to help the team. Now, we get to see if Wright and Britton can do the same.

That’s the way baseball is with every other team. Now, we get to see the Yankees apply the same problems and I congratulate Cashman for having the cajones to do it with the Yankees.

What’s up with Jeter’s fielding? Another error – what’s that 6 on the season? Cmon captain get it together!

  6. Chris NJ

I sure hope it’s Chris Britton and Chase Wright. I believe Wright has been pitching at the AA level this season, but still, the numbers are sick. Look for yourself: http://www.minorleaguebaseball.....pid=451657

  7. Moose and Pavano hit the DL, and this is a good thing at River Ave. Blues

[...] Update: The Yanks have decided who will start Tuesday, but won’t announce who it’ll be until the player has been notified. Translation: Double-A Trenton will need to find a starter for Tuesday. Sigh. [...]

  8. Mantlemurcer

Pavano should be in the meadowlands with Jimmy Hoffa.

  9. Josh

gonna be chase wright, announced on yes

  10. ethan

“It’s not something that’s going to get any better going out there and trying to be a hero,” Pavano said.

Wow…I was really worried for a second that Pavano would try to be a hero.
Contrast him with Petite asking to pitch last night in extra innings.

  11. BryanK

Pretty sad Moose and Pavano hit the DL. Of course it is hilarious that Carl is back there, but I can’t think of a more frustrating recent Yankee. No matter what happens, it should be pretty exciting to see who they go with for Tuesday, Wright or otherwise.

  12. BryanK

Is the YES Network announcement the same source everyone has mentioned, or is there a new mention of Wright?

  13. Jeff NJ

Rotoworld and CBSSportsline mentioned it, but who knows what their sources are.

  14. Hello?offense?

I’m sorry, but this offense is the most overrated in all of baseball. And Bobby Abreu is not good enough to be the number 3 hitter.

  15. Stuart

SJ44 is correct. They can solve their problems internally like the rest of the league does…

they have many good arms in the minors…….

  16. TKinDC

Other than the Bernie Williams flap (which was debatable) it seems like Cashman has done a great job handling a difficult set of problems . . . the payroll is going down, the young arms and coming up, now if he can find a huge cottonball to wrap Pavano in so he doesn’t get a hang-nail and miss a month we’ll be in good shape

  17. Kevin

    Ouch. That hurt.
