Mientkiewicz on a roll now

You can set your watch by it. Doug Mientkiewicz gets a hit every 10 days.

Minky just broke an 0-for-24 skid with a single to right field.

Meanwhile, here are the pregame interviews done by Carl Pavano:

Andy Pettitte is keeping the Yankees in this game. If they can get to the bullpen, they have a shot.

And then of course Eyechart gets thrown out at home trying to advance on a wild pitch. Even when he gets a hit, he still hurts the Yanks.

  2. Italian Restaurant April 15th, 2007 at 5:46 pm

This team stinks at the moment.

Lucky bounce the way the ball came back perfectly for kendell to handle it.

I think it’s time to cut bait on the Mientkiewicz experiment. It was ill conceived from the start and has pretty much been fully exposed.

Having said that, Jeter’s AB was absolutely awful…swinging through a hanger. It’s hard to admit, but Jeter’s play has really hurt the Yankees. The errors alone have probably cost the team two wins. Now, he doesn’t seem to be coming up with the big hit. It’s ironic, but it seems as if he and Arod have completely changed roles. I wonder if the captain will start getting the same scrutiny (and blame)?

Andy really is keeping the Yankees in the game, helping the bullpen by settling down after a rough first inning.

Give Minky a break, he was right to try.

This game is far from over

Wow, a blog entry without any troll droppings yet.

It is worth coming here for Pete’s writing but there are too many trolls here living to harass Yankee fans.

As poorly as Mientkiewicz is hitting he has prevented a number of runs with excellent fielding. He has done far better than I expected. Hopefully the hitting will improve but it is good to have him there on the corner.

  8. Emobacca April 15th, 2007 at 5:49 pm

Does ARod have a coke problem that we don’t know about Pete?

  9. Eric Schultz April 15th, 2007 at 5:49 pm

I was sort of hoping to see Derek bunt on that at bat, but maybe that’s just hindsight on my part.

  10. Ryan April 15th, 2007 at 5:49 pm

A-Rod needs to leave his finger out of his nose….

  11. Jeff NJ April 15th, 2007 at 5:52 pm

A Rod is on fire. If we make him co-captain will he honor his contract?

  12. Will April 15th, 2007 at 5:54 pm

Mientkiewicz’ glove has been solid at best…I think everyone is mentally comparing him to Giambi. He is an above average defender, but that doesn’t justify his brutal bat. Not only did he get thrown out at the plate (you DONT go down by two with the hottest hitter in the game), but had he not jogged to 3B on the Abreu FC, he’d have scored when Walker failed to come up with the throw.

  13. Jeff NJ April 15th, 2007 at 5:55 pm

Some people just get a lot of nosebleeds, my wife is one of them. Sometimes they take awhile to stop, it’s a pretty hopeless feeling when that happens. Where are the trolls joking that he cut it on Jeter’s ass?

  14. Will April 15th, 2007 at 5:55 pm

Honor his contract? His contract GIVES him the right to opt out. Right now, Arod is the only position player earning his money.

  15. Jeff A. www.scoutyankees.forumup.us April 15th, 2007 at 5:57 pm

    Base hit by giambi

  16. Jeff NJ April 15th, 2007 at 6:00 pm

Posada is so underrated. We won’t fully appreciate him until a guy like Nieves is playing everyday.

  17. bleek420 April 15th, 2007 at 6:04 pm

for all the whiney and moaning that has gone on for this game….we are in a tied ball game with the go ahead run at third. what is wrong with you guys? this team isnt going to go 162-0. wow look at that…they just took the lead. what a stinky team!

  18. Will April 15th, 2007 at 6:07 pm

bleek420..when clear weaknesses are being exposed, you don’t ignore them. Mientkiewicz is the most glaring hole on this team and I don’t see why the team should not be actively trying to fill it.

As for 162-0, 5-5 translates to 81-81. Clearly, it’s early, but there are enough concerns that lead to me to believe that the team’s poor play early on can’t simply be brushed off.

  19. Hiding in Boston April 15th, 2007 at 6:08 pm

    Yankees take the lead.

Hmm, is that noise the sound of trolls creeping back on to the band wagon?

  20. Jeff NJ April 15th, 2007 at 6:13 pm

Man Pettitte is just what the doctor ordered today. That and a day off tomorrow, the bullpen will be fine.

  21. Emobacca April 15th, 2007 at 6:16 pm

I hope all of you have kneepads so you can give a formal thank-you to Andy

  22. Hiding in Boston April 15th, 2007 at 6:17 pm

Whatever else happens today, Pettite showed what leadership is all about

  23. David G April 15th, 2007 at 6:19 pm

    I thought our rotation was the #1 concern. I stand corrected…. it’s 1B.

  24. Dee April 15th, 2007 at 6:19 pm

    Jeff –

Totally agree with you about Posada. Granted all the positions are tough, but being a catcher is so physically demanding and wears down on your knees day in and day out. And the mental aspect of calling pitches is such an important skill that can win or lose games. I know Posada is getting older, but I hope he stays with us for a while!

  25. Dan from Mass April 15th, 2007 at 6:29 pm

Good comment about the trolls, Paul. How can these people enjoy a 162 game season when they get so nervous about every little setback? And why are so many people convinced Torre sucks? I just don’t get it. With all these downers, this comments section is hardly enjoyable anymore.

  26. Pakistan Dustin April 15th, 2007 at 6:35 pm

Man has Arod improved he really makes pitchers pay for mistakes. He not getting fooled or (guessing) wrong much this year. Its nice to see a classic yankee game- ware out the starter with patient at bats and then expose the bulpen.

Is anybody excited about Chase wright? maybe these injuries will be a blessing in disguise! Im guessing he’s going to make the most of it and challenge for a permanent role.

  27. redbug April 15th, 2007 at 8:01 pm

    Pete,

Did the Yanks have a MRI done on Pavano? Have any medical tests been done to back up his claim on a sore arm?
