A-Rod falls short of 162-game hit streak

Peter Abraham

Stunning news from the Bronx, where Alex Rodriguez is 0 for 4 and the Yankees are down 5-2 in the eighth inning.

Strange but true: He’s 0 for 6 against Fausto Carmona lifetime with five strikeouts.

Barring a comeback, the Yankees go to Boston two games out of first. But focus on what happens tonight in Tampa. If Chien-Ming Wang gets through his rehab start and joins the rotation, it will be huge for the Yanks.

Once they get their rotation in order, the standings in April will be swiftly forgotten.

I’m off to Boston tonight and plan to blog my brains out this weekend.

The offense will seriously need to show up this weekend or we are in for a long series.

    Have a safe trip.

Best chance is Game One. Papelbon has worked two days in a row. Will Tito work him a third day if its close?

Andy has to give them quality and innings and this team has hit Schilling quite well the past couple of years.

If they can win Game 1, its already a successful weekend, IMO, given the state of the rotation.

  3. Global Warming

    Nicely said.

Win game 1 behind Pettitte and the pray we steal one of the next two games with an offensive explosion.

After that series is over in Boston, we play Tampa and get Matsui and Wang back.

Should be a good boost to the team.

    unless boston keeps playing well.

tito said he’d work papelbon “no more than three days in a row” at the beginning of the season.

i’d agree, if they take 1 of 3, it’s a success. a sweep puts them five games back, though, which isn’t really a great place to be, i don’t care if it’s april or not.

they’ll be seeing three very good pitchers this weekend, all three of whom are pitching very well. it’s so rare that either of these teams sweeps the other in a series, but i wouldn’t be completely shocked to see the yankees drop all three this weekend. boston’s just playing better right now. doesn’t necessarily mean they’re going to run away with the division, but they’re playing very well right now and the yankees are playing exactly as their record would indicate.

as for today’s game, this is what happens when you have to go to your bullpen in the 5th or 6th inning nearly every game. ideally, you’d like to be able to go to bruney, proctor or farnsworth as soon as vizcaino gets into trouble, but torre doesn’t have that luxury, as he had to go to bruney in the 5th, and has had to use proctor nearly every day. until they get some innings from the starting pitchers, this team is going to have a tough time playing any better than .500 baseball.

  14. UKYankee

why do they even pitch to him….I think maybe the deluded image of him created by certain bloggers based on 1 yr of a 12yr career are oddly working in his favour right now. No way they pitch to pujols

  15. Big Johnson

The author of this blog should be ashamed of him/herself for releasing such a pathetic post before the game is over. Obviously not a true yankee fan.

    Remember Yogi well.

Big: Based on the photo and the name Peter, I am a man. And, correct, I’m not a Yankee fan. I cover the team for a newspaper. But, hey, thanks for posting.

    kasey:

You are such a worry wart! I guess all this anguish, pessimism, “let’s look at the dark side” attitude keep your creative juices going. Good for you! But man, if you believe you are “just being realistic, unlike some brainless rah-rah-we-are-going-to-sweep-the-sox yankees fans”, and you are “educating” us here, then I cannot disagree more.

Again, I am not accusing you of being a sox fan. In fact, I believe you are yankees fan. The fact that you are a fan just makes your negative attitude even more “remarkable” to me.
