    UGLY

  2. Jeff

no sweat…i’m sure we’ll be competitive tonight, and don’t worry, injuries will strike their side as well

  3. Stormy

It’s critical that Giambi and Cano hit today. Because Melky, Thompson, Minky and Nieves (I can’t even believe this guy is on the team) will be lucky to get a single hit amongst themselves.

  4. 12to6

    Cabrera leadoff? Yikes.

  5. Jeteupthemiddle

I’d rather Phelps in than Mientkiewicz.

I realize that he is the back up catcher since Posada is unavailable, but if he plays first base, that doesn’t matter…meaning, it isn’t like a pitcher would have to bat if for some reason Nieves had to be pulled during an inning.

Also, considering Melky’s struggles, no way I lead him off today.

My ideal lineup for today (knowing that both Damon and Posada are out) would be:

    Jeter
    Abreu
    Arod
    Giambi
    Cano
    Phelps
    Melky
    Thompson
    Nieves

  6. Joeysdadjoe

Id have Phelps split the lefties in the 6 hole.Hope the big guys pound Beckett.

  7. A-Rod for Prez

Nieves! Melky Cabrera hitting lead off! Thompson! God help us.

  8. A-Rod for Prez

Never praise Johnny Damon for never being on the DL again. When you sit out big games because you are out of shape and went 0-4 last night, it’s almost as if you are on the DL.

  9. Drew

At least Thompson won’t be pinch running for Giambi today.

  10. TwentySeven

Derek Jeter/Bobby Abreu for leadoff? Please?

Melky has been really bad so far, no way he’s earned the leadoff spot.

  11. Jeff A.

lol…. The same people who are ripping Melky a new one were the same Rocket Scientist who said he was untradeable this off season. Do some of our fans ever think with out being extremely negative or overly positive?

  12. randy l

what’s up with melky walking only once so far this year? last year he walked a respectable 56 times. maybe leading off will help him take a few more pitches.
the yankees still have more all stars in the line up today than most teams, so anything could happen. i’d say if they played the red sox with this lineup and this pitcher 100 times they might win 30-35 games. so it’s not looking good ,but there’s a chance.

i just hope they get out of town without any more injuries. they need to get wang , matsui, posada, damon, and mussina back and regroup.

  13. realisticyankeefan

LOL! This is the New York Yankees?

  14. TwentySeven

lol…. The same people who are ripping Melky a new one were the same Rocket Scientist who said he was untradeable this off season. Do some of our fans ever think with out being extremely negative or overly positive?——————-

I never said he was untradable, but I said that we needed to wait for the right deal, which wasn’t Mike Gonzalez. Look at that, Gonzalez just got injured!

I am still optimistic on Melky but the fact is you can’t put someone who is slumping in the leadoff spot. If he was a hot hitter, this would be a great move. But he’s not.

  15. beavis

anyone who thinks this team is better off without bernie is nuts…today’s lineup is a perfect example

  16. randy l

    realisticyankeefan-
just think of it as a spring training b game that the regulars will play 9 innings.

  17. Jeff A.

I would of made the Gonzalez deal.

  18. realisticyankeefan

“the yankees still have more all stars in the line up today than most teams, so anything could happen.”

You are delusional, pal. There is only one thing that can happen with this line-up, and that is another loss.

C’mon…Melky, Minky, Thompson, Nieves, every one a piece of crap and each one a worse hitter than the next.

Putting a team like that out on the field (with a stiff like Karstens impersonating an MLB starting pitcher) is an unfunny joke and an insult to Yankee fans everywhere.

  19. TwentySeven

Beavis: Bernie is done. That ship has sailed. Even if it hadn’t, Bernie isn’t the right choice here. He’s done. He has nothing left in him. Sorry, I know it’s harsh, but its the truth.

  20. realisticyankeefan

If George was healthy, he would not let something like this happen. A bench this horrible is not acceptable for a team with the financial resources of NY.

  21. TwentySeven

I would of made the Gonzalez deal.——Hence why you are not Brian Cashman. Mike Gonzalez was struggling with the Braves and now he’s injured.

  22. Jeff A.

“Beavis: Bernie is done. That ship has sailed. Even if it hadn’t, Bernie isn’t the right choice here. He’s done. He has nothing left in him. Sorry, I know it’s harsh, but its the truth.”

    Yup

  23. Jeff

I don’t know why I am surprised-since it happens all the time-but I can’t believe the level of panic that has set in following last night’s game. Everyone take a deep breath, because:
    1) all the injured guys (except Pavano—obviously) will be back within the next few days; no injury is serious
    2) Rivera will be fine. He always goes through a slump or two during the season. No game is any less or more important than any other. Last night’s was just another loss
    3) We still have tremendous fire power in the lineup, and guys who fly under the radar like Nieves, Thompson and Karstens, always seem to surprise…so watch out for them tonight. And by the way, Thompson is far superior to Bernie at this stage of their careers.

  24. Andrew

Erhm, this lineup is still one of the better lineups Boston has faced this season so far.

  25. Jeff A.

“If George was healthy, he would not let something like this happen. A bench this horrible is not acceptable for a team with the financial resources of NY.”

Yea instead he would of panicked and traded Phil Hughes for Reggie Sanders. dude we are 8-7 and its April relax! By the way you call you call your self realistic yankee fan because im sure you despise homers I do too but being a half glass full pessimist all the time is not being realistic its just the other extreme on the fan rector scale with homer being the other one.

  26. Chris NJ

Crap. I forgot we have to listen to Joe Buck and Tim McCarver. God help us all.

Not only that, but we got Jeff pitching for us, without having started a game this year. The fact that he’s pitching doesn’t scare it’s the fact that he hasn’t started an official major league baseball game yet.

  27. Peter Abraham

Please don’t feed the trolls, folks. Thanks.

  28. Max Cooper

Can any one think of where I can find a picture of crisp flipping over the wall into the sox bullpen from yesterday? I want to set it to my computer background! thanks

  29. Chris NJ

randy, being in the leadoff spot might very well help him take more ptiches, and possibly get a couple of walks and swing at better pitches. Wasn’t Melky struggling last season before he was put into the leadoff spot for a couple of games, and then go on to do fairly well the rest of the season? Even if it might help Melky, that’s not Joe’s reasoning to put him there.

  30. randy l

    “You are delusional, pal.”
the yankees still have 5 all stars and an all star closer fro today’s game.
that’s more than most other teams have.
like i said, maybe about a 30% chance of winning today.
    i agree it feels worse.

  31. Stacey

“Crap. I forgot we have to listen to Joe Buck and Tim McCarver. God help us all.”

According to Joe Buck last night’s lone victory wipes away the 2006 Boston Massacre. Because one win in April is more important than a five game series sweep in August that turned a 1 and 1/2 game lead to a 6 and 1/2 game lead…someone get him off my TV screen permanently. Where’s Tony Soprano and his boys when you need them?

  32. Chris NJ

According to McCarver it’s hard for us to win the game after we lost a game like that. I’m guessing we should just quit now?

And what’s with everyone prasing Beckett’s start this season? He did the same exact thing last season, something like 3-0 with a 1.50ERA, and you all know what happened with him.

  33. CGramazio

What are the odds Beckett hits A-Rod. Bueller, Bueller…anyone?

  34. Jeff A.

“According to McCarver it’s hard for us to win the game after we lost a game like that. I’m guessing we should just quit now?

And what’s with everyone prasing Beckett’s start this season? He did the same exact thing last season, something like 3-0 with a 1.50ERA, and you all know what happened with him.”

Whats wrong with what he said…..McCarver is not out to get us I know thats hard for some of you guys to believe.

  35. Erick

In spring training everyone was crazy for Karstens, put him in the rotation instead of Igawa, he is lights out.

Now he doesn’t stand a chance. Let’s give him a couple of starts first, even if he gets knocked around today a little, it’s not the end of him.

Remember he’s a number 4-5 guy and might wind up in the pen in the future as long relief.

  36. Erick

Have you guys realized ARod not only leads in HR’s and RBI’s. He is also like 6th in BA, a little more than a dozen points back.

It’s early, but it sure will be fun seeing him make a run for the triple crown.

  37. Chris NJ

Jeff A., because it’s incredibly annoying. What does the way we lost yesterdays game have to do with todays game?

I never said he’s out to get us, he just has alot of stupid comments to say.

  38. Jeff

It’s amazing how sorrowful Buck sounds when the Yanks do something good. How does this guy keep his job?

  39. Jeff

the homeplate ump called the second strike on giambi before the pitch crossed the plate, now this brazenly bad call…one has to wonder…

  40. Russell W

how much does it suck knowing that we cannot score enough runs to cover the amount karstens is going to give up?

  41. Russell W

and if mariano pitches, u can double the number for karstens

  42. randy l

“What are the odds Beckett hits A-Rod…?”
i’m telling you folks, karstens should drill ortiz as soon as possible in the first inning( in a nice safe place like his fat you know what and get both teams warned. beckett is such a punk he’s not going to be able to help himself take a shot at someone. youkillis got hit up and in pretty good last night. i’d be totally shocked if beckett doesn’t go after someone.

  43. chazzh

what a bunch of losers. Thanks for stopping by Russell. Looking forward to seeing you trolls leave once the Yanks get the lead.

  44. Luke

How many options does Britton have left now? and why was he sent down? I understand he was underwelming during spring training but he’s been getting outs when they use him, but honestly they’re going to keep Bean? I don’t get it. Although its not like Torre is going to use any of them anyways, he’ll just keep trotting out the same guys game in game out. =/
