    Oh goody.

Willy Mo has Light-Tower power, luckily though he also has the tendency to strike out.

    Here’s to a 4 K game from Willy Mo!

  2. Ryan April 22nd, 2007 at 7:37 pm

I cannot hit curveball. Straightball I hit it very much. Curveball, bats are afraid.

This sums up Willy Mo in a nutshell.

  3. BBFan April 22nd, 2007 at 7:41 pm

    Peter,

Why the change? Is Crisp Ok? Hopefully there are no after effects of that fall in to the bull pen.

  4. Nick B. April 22nd, 2007 at 7:47 pm

I bet neither of those two are in centerfield next year, I bet Theo really regrets that extension to Crisp before he ever proved himself. He is a very mediocre player, even though he is young I don’t think he is going to stay long in Boston.

  5. UNCYankee April 22nd, 2007 at 8:00 pm

Just got back from a Greensboro Grasshoppers v. Lexington Legends game. Before the game, Koby Clemens was next to the dugout and I asked him what his father’s plans were. He said “Yankees”. Look out.

  6. Go NYR April 22nd, 2007 at 8:04 pm

Were you wearing any thing to do with the Yankees?

  7. UNCYankee April 22nd, 2007 at 8:05 pm

No, I left my hat at home.

  8. Go NYR April 22nd, 2007 at 8:06 pm

Oh, otherwise Id say he was just screwin with ya. But cool. I hope he is right

  9. UNCYankee April 22nd, 2007 at 8:08 pm

BTW, when I left in the 7th (to get home for the Yankees game) he had committed two errors and was 0-3 with a K. He plays 3rd.

  10. Go NYR April 22nd, 2007 at 8:08 pm

I see Johnny is playing tonight. This guy is starting to bug me. He is able to play one day and not the next. Then he is pinch hitting in the 9th. Is he hurt or not hurt? It cant be in between. Either play everyday or go on the DL. I dont see why he cant start the game but yet he can get up in the 9th and play. He is startiing to bug me

  11. Go NYR April 22nd, 2007 at 8:09 pm

    Ouch. Tough game

  12. Go NYR April 22nd, 2007 at 8:09 pm

    Is that AA ball?

  13. UNCYankee April 22nd, 2007 at 8:11 pm

NYR, no, it is low A.

  14. Angel April 22nd, 2007 at 8:17 pm

I hope Arod takes him out of the park next time he faces him for that.

  15. Angel April 22nd, 2007 at 8:18 pm

Maybe NYR, he’s playing hurt. You know, kinda like he did all last year. Did that occur to you? lol

  16. randy l April 22nd, 2007 at 8:18 pm

    ha! take that matsuzaka!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Angel April 22nd, 2007 at 8:18 pm

Thank you for making him pay for that, Jason. Very nice hitting the other way.

  18. mike f April 22nd, 2007 at 8:19 pm

    go giambino!!

  19. DL April 22nd, 2007 at 8:19 pm

wow, great to see giambi go the other way.

  20. Erick April 22nd, 2007 at 8:19 pm

HBP on Rodriguez on the first ball… retaliation?

  21. Angel April 22nd, 2007 at 8:20 pm

And perhaps he wasn’t given a choice to play last night either. He doesn’t make the final decision on if he plays or not.

  22. Rey22 April 22nd, 2007 at 8:21 pm

Now if we can just hold these leads…
    Unlike yesterday…

  23. Rocco April 22nd, 2007 at 8:21 pm

looks like the plan is to get guys on base… then dice-k isnt as effective.

  24. randy l April 22nd, 2007 at 8:21 pm

no retaliation with a man on.just pitching up and in.

  25. Jeff NJ April 22nd, 2007 at 8:22 pm

Wonder who Wright is going to plunk for payback. I say Varitek.

  26. TY April 22nd, 2007 at 8:26 pm

Matsuzaka’s lack class and sportsmanship. He hit Arod in his first pitch. What a Joke.. I hope expect Chase Wright. hit Big papi as well

  27. Jeff NJ April 22nd, 2007 at 8:27 pm

Keep throwing to first Chase, agitate the fans.

  28. Dave April 22nd, 2007 at 8:27 pm

I love how Matsui, posada and wang are all being activated tomorrow to face off against the devil rays. Too bad they couldnt make tonights game …

  29. Erick April 22nd, 2007 at 8:27 pm

Mike Plugh if you’re reading this…

Do you think Saito will pitch four years of college ball (is Waseda a four year school) or maybe opt to go pro after a year or two.

    Maybe to MLB?

  30. DL April 22nd, 2007 at 8:28 pm

    TY –

he did not hit a-rod intentially. you could tell from his expression, and he wouldn’t especially with a guy on first.

  31. Dave April 22nd, 2007 at 8:29 pm

This first inning is becoming eerily similar to yesterday.

  32. sammy April 22nd, 2007 at 8:29 pm

    agreed with randy 1.
not intended. Just trying to get inside… maybe brush him back.

I don’t think Wright will retaliate.

  33. Jeff NJ April 22nd, 2007 at 8:29 pm

Posada is active, he may or may not play tomorrow, Matsui is eligible to come off tomorrow. Wang is coming off Tuesday.

  34. Lefty April 22nd, 2007 at 8:29 pm

Dice K really needs that rag arm Tavarez telling him how to pitch to ARod….Tavarez was imitating a scared person when gesturing to throw inside….Tavarez could not scare ARod if he was standing on the mound with a gun….go punch another watercooler you fool

  35. Lefty April 22nd, 2007 at 8:30 pm

someone call the pen….this could get ugly

  36. Dave April 22nd, 2007 at 8:30 pm

start warming up the long relief – this kid is so obviously shaken up right now. Very little command and that is apparently his strong point.

  37. Jeff NJ April 22nd, 2007 at 8:31 pm

    oh boy

  38. Jennifer April 22nd, 2007 at 8:31 pm

Chase needs to trust his stuff!! stop walking!!

  39. Dave April 22nd, 2007 at 8:31 pm

OK i meant they are pretty much all coming back tomorrow – wang will be at the game tomorrow but wont pitch til tuesday.

  40. Erick April 22nd, 2007 at 8:32 pm

He doesn’t lack class or sportsmanship. Japanese players are very honorable, the whole of their society. It could be a ball that got away like randy l said. Or if he did it on purpose, just because he’s a Red Sox doesn’t mean he’s classless.

If a Yankee pitcher had done it, there’d be no problem. It’s the game if it was on purpose. The same way some would like to get Clemens and have him pitch close to Big Papi to warn him.

  41. Chris NJ April 22nd, 2007 at 8:32 pm

Is the strikezone really that MUCH bigger in the minors, or what?

  42. Jennifer April 22nd, 2007 at 8:32 pm

okay got out one tough pitcher. now get the next to ground into a dp.

  43. Jeff NJ April 22nd, 2007 at 8:32 pm

one away, kid started same way last week, two striaght walks then got 3 outs with only one run. Then he settled down.

  44. Angel April 22nd, 2007 at 8:33 pm

    Oh settle down… sheesh.

Honestly, panic buttons are like Staples easy buttons around here.

  45. Dave April 22nd, 2007 at 8:33 pm

The point is they are all almost ready to play again but not in time to help us not get swept.

  46. Jeff NJ April 22nd, 2007 at 8:34 pm

another pop up, no runners advance. Hopefully we wo’t have to deal with those two for a few a long while, and hopefully they come up with the bases empty.

  47. Dave April 22nd, 2007 at 8:35 pm

ok almost out of it – its easy to push the panic button with two straight walks and no one out with DO, manny and nancy coming up.

  48. Jeff NJ April 22nd, 2007 at 8:35 pm

ok Dave, take a step back from the ledge. You’re a Yankee fan right? Calm down, Wright is going to come up big tonight.

  49. Lefty April 22nd, 2007 at 8:37 pm

do not think this is the case BUT how great would it be if Manny was on the decline and had a crap season…

I do think that Tek may be done and they owe him as he just got an extension a couple of years ago…

  50. randy l April 22nd, 2007 at 8:37 pm

good velocity with wright tonight. maybe a fast gun.
no runs in the first inning for wright. awesome.

  51. Dave April 22nd, 2007 at 8:37 pm

    Good stuff!!!!!!!!

  52. Jeff NJ April 22nd, 2007 at 8:37 pm

Now that is how you come back, gotta love the fight in this kid, makes up for weaknesses.

  53. DL April 22nd, 2007 at 8:37 pm

nice job working out of trouble, wright.

  54. Dave April 22nd, 2007 at 8:38 pm

I wasnt on any ledge – just said it was easy to panic after those first two walks – i am shocked that no run came across the plate.

  55. Global Warming(PTS) April 22nd, 2007 at 8:39 pm

    Chase “Houdini” Wright.

Every batter is 3-2 with him. 30 Pitches in the first inning, at this rate he will be lucky to go 4 or 5 innings.

    Yay! Bullpen again!

  56. paul April 22nd, 2007 at 8:39 pm

watching the game on mute is no fun, but morgan and miller are horrible

  57. BBFan April 22nd, 2007 at 8:40 pm

Wright got out of first innning with a strike out. Ortiz, Manny and Drew were all out with two on base. This should build the confidence of Wright from second inning onwards.

    Do we sense a victory?

  58. DL April 22nd, 2007 at 8:41 pm

yeah, joe morgan contributes nothing to the game, and has the dullest voice. but you have to hand it to jon miller – his japanese sounds pretty good!

  59. Rey22 April 22nd, 2007 at 8:42 pm

Damn, Nieves just got robbed of his first hit.

  60. sammy April 22nd, 2007 at 8:43 pm

    BB Fan-

I think, from Friday’s game, I’m not going to sense a victory until we get the third out in the bottom of the ninth.

the ONLY thing that I’m worried about right now… Wright facing this order the second time through. Agree with Randy – he’s got some good stuff. Hopefully, he can harness it, and keep it for the next couple of innings or so.

we get 5 innings from him, I will be content.
remember: he came from AA this past week.

  61. Lefty April 22nd, 2007 at 8:43 pm

paul…totally agree if Morgan gets a sore throat he is going to need to go to a proctologist…

  62. Angel April 22nd, 2007 at 8:43 pm

Have some faith in your players. Is it really that hard?

They’re hitting him hard, even if they’re not all falling in for hits.

  63. Rocco April 22nd, 2007 at 8:44 pm

    Nieves hit hat hard.

  64. randy l April 22nd, 2007 at 8:45 pm

are my eyes deceiving me ? nieves hit a ball hard. i hope he can learn to hit and fast. the mendoza line would even be most welcome.

  65. BBFan April 22nd, 2007 at 8:46 pm

    Yankees will win today.
    The Yankees will win…………………..

  66. Go NYR April 22nd, 2007 at 8:46 pm

He definately threw it up and in there on purpose. You could tell Tavares was telling him to do it on the video they showed. When you throw it in there, that can happen so it was intentional but still unintentional

  67. sammy April 22nd, 2007 at 8:47 pm

Mickelson – that was pretty funny.
I’m going to think about that for the rest of the night.
    heh.

  68. Dave April 22nd, 2007 at 8:47 pm

He cant throw 5-10 pitches to each hitter.

  69. paul April 22nd, 2007 at 8:48 pm

chase has just to work down in the zone, and he should be ok

  70. DL April 22nd, 2007 at 8:48 pm

i don’t think tavares was telling him to hit a-rod. he was motioning that he should go up and in, to brush him off the plate and “scare him.”

  71. Jeff NJ April 22nd, 2007 at 8:49 pm

    Chase is settling down

  72. paul April 22nd, 2007 at 8:49 pm

say chase throws pretty decent, and gets the win, do we bag karstans and keep chase?

  73. BBFan April 22nd, 2007 at 8:49 pm

I do not think it was intentional to hit A-Rod.
He was just trying to push him off the plate.
A-Rod was surprised and did not react quickly to get out of the way.

It resulted in a additional run, without an A-Rod homer. It is good.

  74. Dave April 22nd, 2007 at 8:50 pm

the best part of winning tonight is beating Doorstop with a rookie right out of double A (really out of A ball.) The 100 million dollar man aginst the league minimum man

  75. Jeff NJ April 22nd, 2007 at 8:51 pm

    Guess he’s not settling down.

  76. Go NYR April 22nd, 2007 at 8:51 pm

I know, he threw up and in on purpose so it is debateable wether Tavares was tellin him to hit him or not. I just dont think it is a coincedence that Tavares told him to hit throw it up and in and he hit him

  77. Cody April 22nd, 2007 at 8:52 pm

Can someone tell me if the ump is squeezing the zone for Wright? I can’t watch the game because I’m at work, and they keep saying that over at the yankees.com message board, so how are the umps doing tonight?

  78. Global Warming(PTS) April 22nd, 2007 at 8:52 pm

Chase had control problems prior to this year.

Houdini Wright on his way to walking the tightrope and walking 5+ batters.

Let’s hope the offense can hit Mats some more.

  79. paul April 22nd, 2007 at 8:52 pm

    keeps falling behind every batter

  80. Dave April 22nd, 2007 at 8:52 pm

whoever does the best will stay up once wang and moose are back. We dont “bag” the rest- we send them to triple A and call on them as needed or keep them in the pen as long relief. They arent a lost cause at that point.

  81. BBFan April 22nd, 2007 at 8:53 pm

How many runs the Yankess will score this third inning?
    Will A-Rod hit a homer?

  82. Dave April 22nd, 2007 at 8:53 pm

the ump seems to be doing alright so far. Giambi hit a pitch well otu of the zone.

  83. Jeff NJ April 22nd, 2007 at 8:54 pm

I thought they were squeezing him a little at first, but I think it was fair that inning. He normally is right around the plate even on pitches called balls. Now if only he can get some quick innings. The pitch count is not his friend but I hope Torre lets him pitch a long game if he is doing well.

  84. Jeff NJ April 22nd, 2007 at 8:55 pm

Yeah Johnny bounce if off that pussey toad.

  85. BBFan April 22nd, 2007 at 8:55 pm

    Here we go….
Barring a double play, A-Rod will come to plate…

  86. Jeff NJ April 22nd, 2007 at 8:56 pm

Now he hits Jeter? What the F?

  87. Rey22 April 22nd, 2007 at 8:56 pm

    First A-Rod, then Jeter? Um…hello?

  88. paul April 22nd, 2007 at 8:57 pm

chase might have to man up

  89. Go NYR April 22nd, 2007 at 8:57 pm

Dice-K is digging himself into a hole

  90. randy l April 22nd, 2007 at 8:58 pm

ok , i don’t care if matsuzaka meant it or not. the yankees should pick their spot and send a message back that if you can’t go inside without hitting someone, don’t go in there.

  91. Go NYR April 22nd, 2007 at 8:58 pm

Barring a triple play A-Rod comes to the plate

  92. BBFan April 22nd, 2007 at 8:58 pm

    Now retaliation is in order…
Who do we pick to be hit?
    Ortiz, Manny… Niether can steal a base…

  93. Lefty April 22nd, 2007 at 8:59 pm

busting Dice K out big time will make up for the pain of losing the last couple of nights….would love to hang a beating on him and welcome him to the rivalry….this is different than the Kyoto Whale Killers vs. Osaka Pokemans rivalry he may be familiar with

  94. Jeff NJ April 22nd, 2007 at 8:59 pm

Manny with two outs no one on

  95. Michael April 22nd, 2007 at 8:59 pm

Chase ” Never confuse me with Jaret” Wright

  96. TY April 22nd, 2007 at 8:59 pm

Another Hit by pitch great Matsuzaka on Jeter. I want Chase Wright hit Manny in eye.

  97. DL April 22nd, 2007 at 8:59 pm

i don’t think we can afford to “send a message” with wright on the mound.

  98. Erick April 22nd, 2007 at 8:59 pm

Man even when D-Mat has control problems he has throws few pitches… now if Wright could have control issues and throw fex piches.

  99. Dint April 22nd, 2007 at 9:01 pm

The message will be sent in beating him, not hitting their players.

  100. Dave April 22nd, 2007 at 9:01 pm

both times dice k hit someone there was a man on. I dont think a pitcher would ever hit someone intentionally with a man on.

  101. DL April 22nd, 2007 at 9:02 pm

“kyoto whale killers v. osaka pokemon”? there’s no need to go there. you can not like the guy because he’s on the red sox, but let’s not be so culturally offensive.

  102. Dave April 22nd, 2007 at 9:03 pm

    rock him again giambi

  103. randy l April 22nd, 2007 at 9:03 pm

we are all just wishing because it’s not torre’s style to retaliate.

  104. Go NYR April 22nd, 2007 at 9:04 pm

    How is that culturally offensive?

  105. Lefty April 22nd, 2007 at 9:04 pm

DL…it is not culturally offensive….Pokeman was created in Japan and they have killed whales….correct ?

  106. randy l April 22nd, 2007 at 9:04 pm

    it’s a fast gun.

  107. DL April 22nd, 2007 at 9:05 pm

because, it’s reducing japanese people to your stereotypes of them.

  108. paul April 22nd, 2007 at 9:05 pm

    take it

  109. Jeff NJ April 22nd, 2007 at 9:05 pm

Giambi is making him pay for the hit batters. Gotta love him, our forgotten slugger.

  110. Erick April 22nd, 2007 at 9:05 pm

    Giambino Bambino

  111. Dave April 22nd, 2007 at 9:06 pm

if that didnt fall i would have been pissed- stupid shift and giambi cant even get bloops to fall in for a hit at times. Thank god it fell in.

  112. Wolf In Pinstripes April 22nd, 2007 at 9:06 pm

Ha! Take that defensive shift and stick it! 8^)~

  113. randy l April 22nd, 2007 at 9:06 pm

jack up that pitch count with men on base!

  114. Dave April 22nd, 2007 at 9:07 pm

dice k at no point today has looked like he is worth 100 million dollars. He is no pedro – thas for certain

  115. Lefty April 22nd, 2007 at 9:08 pm

DL…forget about it. I will reserve all my “stereotyping” for my next rap album…

  116. BBFan April 22nd, 2007 at 9:09 pm

    Folks it is offessive.
Let us stay out of it, enjoy the game and the rivalry. No need to bring Japan in to it.

  117. Lefty April 22nd, 2007 at 9:12 pm

honestly it was more a jab at their league than anything else….

  118. BBFan April 22nd, 2007 at 9:12 pm

Now is the time to drill Manny – Two out, no one on….

  119. Jeff NJ April 22nd, 2007 at 9:13 pm

    Plunk Manny time?

  120. Dave April 22nd, 2007 at 9:13 pm

why would wright put someone on base for free … its only a three run lead. And it would prove nothing at this point.

  121. Dave April 22nd, 2007 at 9:14 pm

damn, maybe he should have plunked him

  122. Dave April 22nd, 2007 at 9:15 pm

its true- every sock breaks out of their slump against us – whats with that

  123. Lefty April 22nd, 2007 at 9:15 pm

    uh..oh

  124. Pakistan Dustin April 22nd, 2007 at 9:16 pm

Thug manny showboats like a bum finding a half smoked ciggarete. The old days that would of resulted in a hit batman!

  125. Lefty April 22nd, 2007 at 9:16 pm

when you get your timing down against a guy like Wright it has to be like hitting BP with all the soft toss rubbish

  126. sammy April 22nd, 2007 at 9:17 pm

well… I guess it’s safe to say that maybe Gator should come out now.

    :)

  127. paul April 22nd, 2007 at 9:17 pm

    ouch

  128. randy l April 22nd, 2007 at 9:18 pm

ok, time for a strategy change. just for fun. let’s pitch really high and tight.if it hits em ,it hits em.

  129. wnybirds April 22nd, 2007 at 9:19 pm

Why isn’t varitek getting one in the ear here?

  130. Lefty April 22nd, 2007 at 9:19 pm

Flight 9812 now leaving for Newark….there will be a driver waiting to take you to Trenton…

  131. rico April 22nd, 2007 at 9:19 pm

Yikes. Which way back to Trenton?

  132. wnybirds April 22nd, 2007 at 9:20 pm

Nice of Wright to throw extended BP today.

  133. Erick April 22nd, 2007 at 9:21 pm

Four four baggers with two outs… you kidding me?

  134. Lefty April 22nd, 2007 at 9:21 pm

glad Wright did not cost $100m

  135. wnybirds April 22nd, 2007 at 9:22 pm

So Jeter has been hit, A-rod has been hit, the Sox hit FOUR HRs, and Willy-Mo isn’t walking with a limp??

  136. Lefty April 22nd, 2007 at 9:22 pm

hey..you throw enough 82 mph pitches without excellent location to an MLB lineup and this could happen…I would think

  137. wnybirds April 22nd, 2007 at 9:23 pm

Hey! Wait a minute, is that Jaret Wright!

  138. wnybirds April 22nd, 2007 at 9:25 pm

Don’t worry, I’m sure Minky, Melky and Nieves will hit back to back to back HRs….

  139. Wolf In Pinstripes April 22nd, 2007 at 9:27 pm

OK, Nieves gets his first of the year now as a HR off Dice-K.

(just seeing if Pete’s ESP power has rubbed off on us here)

nieves should switch up his signs. it’s not likely the red sox are stealing the catchers signs, but it looked like they knew what was coming.
for someone who throws the speed wright does, up and in is a necessity. he’s got to do something to make them more uncomfortable.
