Sutcliffe balks on Pavano report

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on Apr 23, 2007 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

I heard that Rick Sutcliffe reported on ESPN that Carl Pavano is out for the season.

This is completely false. Pavano is with the team and has a throwing session scheduled. Torre, Cashman and Guidry all denied the report.

Meanwhile, Mussina has a bullpen session tomorrow and will pitch for Class AA Trenton on Friday in Harrisburg. If that goes well, he would start against Texas next week, probably on Thursday.

As for the 40-man roster move, they don’t need to make one. They can move Humberto Sanchez to the 60-day DL.

I meant to say, if the story with Pavano is true, it’s horrible news. Midway through writing, A-Rod launched number 13. I feel lucky to be witnessing someone playing like this.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it were true.

I bet the odds are about at even money that he doesn’t pitch again. I believe Pete that he has a bullpen session scheduled but I’ll be suprised if he takes the mound again this year. He’ll get injured somehow.

Very, very sad if it goes that way.

I think the jury is still out as to whether or not Pavano is done for the season.

We have already have heard that Mo won’t pitch 2 innings (shown to be false) and that Hughes won’t pitch for the Yankees this year (now shown to be false).

As soon as Pavano shut it down, I figured he was done for the year.

Maybe he comes back in September, to show other teams he can help them this year.

However, if anybody is looking for Pavano to help them out this year, time to look elsewhere. He isn’t the solution to their problems and is one of the biggest problems on the team.

Why does someone feel the need to float a false report?

Also what the heck was the drays manager talking about. the catchers butt was in front of the plate, and he didn’t get anywhere near taging phelps with the ball.

I also think the Yankees need to go back to freezing out espn. I remember Joe used to refuse to do interviews with them, we obviously need to go back to that.

Was “The Self-Proclaimed Sutt” drunk when he said Pavano was out for the year??

It probably will be the case.

I’d say Sutcliffe is a month too early with this announcement.

I hadn’t known that previous policy re Torre and ESPN but it’s tremendous to hear. According to a recent entry from ESPN’s own ombudsman, almost everyone has or will be associated with ESPN. Which is fine unless you don’t like a monopoly on information, language, and culture. The problem with the Pavano/Sutcliffe thing is it sounds quite believable considering the parties concerned. I believe the team denied it, etc. but it just sounds logical. No sports figure owes ESPN anything. Certain NY Times sports columnists go ballistic if someone famous has the nerve not to take their phone call. No one owes these people anything. Those days are long gone.
