Wright optioned back to Trenton

Peter Abraham
April

To make room for Hideki Matsui, Chase Wright was optioned back to Class AA Trenton.

No word yet on who pitches Friday but it won’t be Mike Mussina, he said.

Back with more later once we speak to Joe Torre.

You think they’d bring back Ranser? Or what is the waiting period to bring someone back up? Maybe another new pitcher?

  2. Ian

    Who are the options?

  3. JJ

    Hey Pete,
is there any chance to still bring in Bernie?
I mean how many times do I really need to see Phelps batting for Minky before this happens?

  4. Peter Abraham

I’m begging you, stop with Bernie. The answer is No.

    No.
    No.
    No.
    No.

    jj-

don’t forget that, if it weren’t for a spectacular play by pedroia to end the 8th, Phelps would have had a huge, game tying single. He absolutely scalded that ball (against a righty, no less). Pedroia made a great play. There was nothing he could do.

  6. Jer

    So Bernie’s coming back?

    (hehe)

  7. Lori

I’m just waiting to see how long until someone floats the name of a certain 20-year old as Friday’s starter . . .(not that I’m advocating it or anything, but I’ll be at Friday’s game and boy would that be cool).

  8. Stan

Does anyone know whos turn it is in Scranton to pitch Friday?

  9. jennifer

Benjamin Anthony Kozlowski pitched Sunday. He didn’t fair too well lasted only 2.1 innings. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.....pid=420684

  10. steve

according to pending pinstripes its either Matt DeSalvo/Tyler Clippard in Scranton … hughes is scheduled to go on tomorrow and sunday

  11. Stan

Just checked the stats, my guess is DeSalvo is going to get the call, althought I cant say im too thrilled about it.

  12. jennifer

I would figure it would be a pitcher on the 40 man the only other pitcher on the roster is Jeff Kennard. not sure where he is or how he is doing. But one would figure they will move humberto to the 60 day, that removes him from the 40 man right? so they will than likely put another pitcher on the 40 man.

  13. Kyle Litke

Not a lot of options. All I see for options right now short of really shifting someone’s starts around is DeSalvo, Henn, or sign someone.

Rasner wouldn’t be eligible to return unless someone else goes on the DL I believe.

  14. Kyle Litke

Yeah, I think you’re right Jennifer, they probably don’t need to worry about the 40 man roster because Sanchez should be going on the 60 day DL anyway, I would think.

  15. Gayle

Lori the answer is 5:20PM Mike and the Mad Dog (the bastiens of smartness)just said it is time to see Hughes maybe not for the whole season but friday should be the day.

  16. Chris NY

I’m pitching Friday, wish me luck.

  17. Chris NY

JJ, Bernie’s not a good pinch hitter. Let it go.

  18. Jack Bauer

While Chase is going down, can someone please teach him how to throw a sinker?

  19. JJ

    OK, No Bernie.
    I get it.
The bottom of the lineup just seems very thin.
I know its only April butI really think that they still need a Stick off the bench to pinch hit when its close and late. Also, another thing. If Joe is going to bring in Mo in the 8th, bring him in at the beginning of the inning, not to clean up someone elses mess.

  20. Chris NY

I do share your desire for a better bat off the bench though. The best pinch-hitter we have is our starting catcher on his off-day. Phelps almost came through yesterday, but he nor Minky are great pinch-hit options. When Melky’s not playing, he’s capable, good hitter. But we have no power off the bench like we used to..

  21. murphydog

Didn’t people like DeSalvo in ST? His last two starts for Scranton were OK apparently. He is supposed to be a decent sinkerball pitcher with a fastball and curve, can issue walks, and is not knocking down the door at the Show.

  22. Jeff NJ

What if we push back Pettitte from Wed to Fri and call up Hughes for Wed?

  23. Steve

I’ve read elsewhere that Michael Kay “confirmed” that Philip Hughes will pitch for the Yankees on Friday. Has anyone else heard this?

  24. Andrew

I heard secondhand that Mike and the Mad Dog have confirmed Hughes for Thursday, effectively he’ll be pitching on 6 days’ rest or so. So I don’t think that’s true.

My guess is DeSalvo, it’ll be around his turn and he’s been the best so far.
