and the third baseman is since the Japanese guy is on the DL??

  2. SJ44 April 24th, 2007 at 6:11 pm

Two first basemen in your lineup, Pete. I take it, Wiggington is at third tonight?

  3. Reflaxion April 24th, 2007 at 6:12 pm

I’m guessing Wigginton will actually be playing 3B tonight.

Interesting move, playing Phelps with Wang on the mound. I wonder if this could be the beginning of the end for Mientkiewicz.

    Reflaxion:
I have no love for Mintcanthit, but Phelps is in there because Kazmir is a LHP.

i will be really pissed if randy johnson pitches 7 innings 2 runs tonight or something of the sort.

reflaxation, I’m guessing it has more to do with Kazmir pitching (lefty). So I guess they chose the better offensive matchup over the need for Mienky’s glove at 1st with Wang on the hill.

  7. Gayle April 24th, 2007 at 6:18 pm

And being as all the Devil Rays have is RHP relivers if we get late in the game with a lead Minky will be in for defense, unless of course that crash landing at first base last night on the AROD throw bruised his back that looked like a tough hit

rock, who cares………. he’s pitching in the NL and no-one said he wasn’t capable of pitching well, he just can’t do it with ANY consistency. at least in NY he couldn’t, so really, who cares??

Interesting that he is pitching against David Wells though. 2 over the hill schlepps that left NY after they couldn’t get it done anymore (or at all in RJ’s case) and the foremost members of the “ow, my neck, my back, my neck and my back” club.

  9. Chris NY April 24th, 2007 at 6:21 pm

Good point Gayle, he’s had back problems and looked to be hurt by that landing. Could be a factor.

What should have been the opening day lineup….had Wang not been injured.

  11. Andrew April 24th, 2007 at 6:28 pm

If Cashman hadn’t traded Randy Johnson, I doubt he would have signed Pettitte. Then where would this team be?

  12. Joeysdadjoe April 24th, 2007 at 6:32 pm

Id like to see Phelps get an extended look.Minky can go in for D

  13. Nick B. April 24th, 2007 at 6:46 pm

Wang v. Kazmir- can we pretend this is opening day???

  14. Chris NY April 24th, 2007 at 7:01 pm

Andrew, Pettitte would have been sighed either way. Maybe wouldn’t have gotten Igawa if anything. I’m not glad we got Igawa, but I’m glad RJ’s gone.

  15. tombo April 24th, 2007 at 7:02 pm

I don’t know how everybody else feels but I think this is the Yanks best lineup.

  16. Erick April 24th, 2007 at 7:16 pm

    I agree Tombo

  17. dmm April 24th, 2007 at 7:20 pm

What is A-Rod’s OBP these days?

  18. lizziemcguire April 24th, 2007 at 7:22 pm

Geez, Giambi was blown away. Gotta get Kazmir while he struggles with his control.

  19. dmm April 24th, 2007 at 7:24 pm

hey jeter is out.. cairo is in.. what is the word? dammit… these guys cannot catch a break

  20. lizziemcguire April 24th, 2007 at 7:27 pm

Cashman’s failure to give the Yanks a decent bench is really showing itself with all the injuries.

    Good bench play IS important.

  21. PAT April 24th, 2007 at 7:54 pm

The Wang-Man has some hair om his fastball this evening….With usual low pitch count, maybe he goes 7….Would be nice and set the tone for tomorrow….
