it is hard to second guess anyone or anything when you are not a factor. iam certain there is no discussion on joes bench before any move is made. iam certain gator has no say, influence, he is only there to take up space and spend georges money. iam certain joe learned long ago, no matter what your team assistants say, just ignore them. oh, zim isn't there anymore. what i really want to see the absolute most is wang back on the dl. uh huh blow the mans whole season trying desperately to beat the drays, in APRIL.
you can make any move, lay out any strategy if you get the execution you're brilliant. if you don't, great, great, great, baseball minds will tear you apart because they have discussed it with the coaches, and players, and manager, and they know exactly who is capable and ready to do what. there are some really great, great, great, baseball minds on these blogs, who well face it, need parttime jobs.

Well...I need to get some sleep. Unlike Torre, if I repeatedly screw up at work, they'll fire me. I sure wish murph or sammy were my boss...I could sleep at my desk and simply shift the blame for my lack of productivity. Heck, I might even get a raise!

Sammy...I'm not saying the Yankees should be undefeated. Clearly, the starters have pitched poorly. That doesn't mean Torre gets a pass for mismanaging the pen. We've already been through the overuse of Proctor and Bruney in blowouts as well as the ridiculous string of games that Viz has been in. The pinch running/defensive replacement issues has now cropped up several times. These are all areas where better management could have helped the Yankees win 2 or 3 more games. Just because the starters have tanked doesn't mean the team needed to lose 5 straight games. Better managing could have helped the team keep its head above water when the chips were down. That is what good managers do. Instead, you seem to think Torre should only be judged when the team is firing on all cyclinders.

Chicago Dave...I thought you were saying Sturtze was actually effective as a Yankee reliever...not merely making the trivial point that he had a good game or two. I challenged you to come up with 10 good innings...you came up with two. I think that pretty much makes my case.

PS - And I never argued that Sturtze was a great/dependable reliever overall. I just said he had some good individual games/appearances...which he did.

harley:

It's OK, you don't need to talk slowly to me. And, please, try not drooling on your keyboard or moving your lips when you read this.

Making an issue out of using Myers instead of Henn is nothing more than a second guess, 20-20 hindsight chickencrap comment that no knowledgeable fan makes with a straight face. No amount of tough guy bravado changes that fact.

You little Steinbrenners are all the same.

Will - so you're saying that that's on the starters, then, right? That they can't pitch well enough to dominate a game into the seventh, eighth, or ninth inning? That they shouldn't get tired in a close, tight game and be suspect to wearing down?

that's not on Torre, is it?
or it's Torre that has them pitching more than three pitches to three batters an inning, getting three quick outs?

it's unreasonable to think that we have a rotation that can go into the late innings night in, and night out. Especially this early in the year, when the starters are getting their arms together.

we have had three fifths of our rotation on the DL, one of which was in the middle of a game. We've had to start three different guys who have little to no experience.

this is Torre's fault, too.
he should've told Moose, "can you try and pitch two more innings. We can't risk the bullpen anymore than we have already."

again... what's the alternative?
