I have a hell of a lot more faith in Bruney and Henn entering a ballgame in the 7th and 8th inning than I do in the "veteran" relievers.

I feel very badly for Chein-Ming Wang, who had me believing we were on our way to curing our pitching ills.

I'd say there's no need to panic, but when you've got too many guys throwing meatballs over the plate, and guys like Viscaino getting lit up every night, something needs to change somewhere.

I'm happy to see Hughes get a shot. It's nice to see a starter who'll throw some heat out there.

As for Hughes 'not being ready' -- Steven Goldman puts it succinctly over at his Yankee blog. The only thing Hughes can get out of another year in the minors is the opportunity to get injured. There's simply nothing left for him to learn there. In any other organization, Hughes would be starting his second year in the bigs.

But the Yankees, so unaccustomed to pitching prospects of any kind, don't really know how to handle this one.

Panic? Nope. Like Cano's promotion, this is one time when events conspire to make them do the right thing.

Some thoughts:
Perhaps the league figured out something about Melkey, it is a game of adjustments...to early to tell.

Mientkiwicz sucks; his glove does not make up for lack of production, we could have kept Carlos Pena or Travis Lee...keep Phelps in there.

Many of you touched on all the reasons Torre is a poor manager so I won't rehash...but he needs to be fired now!

The one batter lefty specialist is over-rated. Bill James wrote a compelling essay on why this is so. In short it wastes a roster spot that can be used for a full time reliever.

The Yankees have become boring and play without passion.

Carl Pavano...They shoot horses, don't they???

Who actually scouted Kei Igawa?

I am worried that Phil Hughes is not ready yet.

I do not think Roger Clemens is the answer to this season's woes.

My $0.02

Let me preface these comments by stating that if I were The Big Stein, Giardi would have been our manager since October.
That said:

1) Wang was gassed. He was leaving his pitches up and had little chance of inducing a ground ball. His sinker was no longer sinking. He had only thrown 81 pitches, but it was his first start of the season. Pulling Wang was the right move.

2) Myers is not burned out. The only guys in the pen that aren't burned out are Myers and Mo. Myers is our lefty specialist. He was the right pitcher to come in to face a lefty with the bases loaded and the game on the line. He left a pitch right over the middle of the plate and it was jacked. He made a mistake and did not do his job.

Torre makes some questionable moves at times and overuses his bullpen, but tonight his pitching decisions were sound. MYERS BLEW THE GAME, NOT TORRE.
