Some personnel moves need to be made. (1) release Mientkiewicz. Phelps and Giambi can man 1st base. (2) release Nieves. Call up either Raul Chavez or Omir Santos to back up Jorge. (3) call up Darrell Rasner or Matt DeSalvo from AAA to work long relief to take pressure off the bullpen until the team gets quality starts.

Miguel Cairo is not a good baseball player. He hasn’t posted an OPS+ over 100 since 2004. His defense is not as good as people say it is and he’s getting old. Why pay him around $1M to suck?

Teams like Boston get full of themselves early in the season. Hitters have grapevines and it’s only a matter of time before their pitching gets figured out and the bubble bursts. Every team experiences injuries. Their time will come.

Dave – I know he’s a top Prospect… I’ve been following him for the past two years. I just don’t think its fair to him or anyone to start that sort of talk when he hasn’t proved anything on the main stage.

I agree with Jake. The reason for the losing streak is the starting pitchers’ 9+ ERA over the last 6 games. Everything else combined is at best a minor factor in their recent woes. If/when the starting pitching gets on track, both that and the BP performance will improve. The offense is fine.

The stuff about Damon’s slump, or Melky’s, is just noise. Every team has at least a few slumping players at any given time. You can’t expect everything to be going right with every player at all times.

I am with you on Cashman. I love his philosophy, but when it comes to pitching his judgment has historically proven questionable.
